District school boards make those decisions. Make your support of libraries and librarians known to them.

Just because it may be unpopular doesn’t mean it isn’t true. Look at what reading has turned in to in schools centering testing over enjoyment. Ban books rather than provide more options. Reading is one of the most fulfilling things we can do and that has to be “controlled”

Agree! And that control is done under the veil of protection yet I’ve HS young adults actively engaged in pushing back because no one has included them in the conversation.

They want a seat at the table because those actions directly impact them!

ICYMI- Canyon ISD recently banned the Bible from libraries after trying to apply & follow HB900. It was unbanned after the bill’s author clarified that the sexual content in the Bible is exempt from HB900. 🙄

Whole works are almost never shared-merely passages, to be assessed. Few of the teachers in my local experience are pleasure readers. As a school librarian, I feel like my local allies in the fight against aliteracy are absent.

Another unpopular opinion: increasingly, in our TX classrooms students are not learning to read a book & enjoy the experience. They are taught to take assessments of reading performance. 1/2

Unpopular opinion of the day. I think that a lot of young people don’t enjoy pleasure reading because a lot of adults don’t want them to enjoy pleasure reading.
