BREAKING: Trans inmate's lawyers claim "egregious retaliation" in violation of court order.
Trans woman involved in a lawsuit challenging anti-trans policies says federal prison official told her on Feb. 22: βI donβt give a fuck what that judge says, I do what I want.β
Something I wanted to say when I started this but that got lost in the writing of the thread is that...
Burson is from 1972. A right to keep a driver's license once issued isn't new.
This is a **knowing** piss they're taking on the 14thA wall of Due Process that is supposed to protect us.
Erin's reporting is, as always, impeccable.
What many may not know, however, is that once a license is issued, the holder has a property interest in that license that is protected by the 14th Amendment.
This goes back to Bell v Burson (1972).

can I please piggyback off you as a Bigger Account that responses like "lol it's Kansas what did you expect" or "Kansas deserves to be hit by more tornadoes" are actually not helpful or comforting to the people being harmed most right now? Because no one bothers listening to me

Part of the reason the whole country hasn't been screaming about trans Kansans who drive being made criminals overnight is because there's so much else that's unconstitutional and horrifying.
But part of it is because it's happening to trans people.
I'm not going to lie - it's extremely troubling to me that this law and its obvious implications hasn't dominated national news for the weeks since its passing.

It is very hard not to have a safe choice to use the bathroom in public.
It may be impossible to continue living, working, eating, etc without a valid driver's license if your life was built around driving and the assumption that your license wouldn't be invalidated overnight by the legislature.
It seems all Kansas-issued trans drivers' licenses are invalid, effective tomorrow
It is now illegal for trans people to drive a car until they surrender their license at a DMV (that most will need to drive to) and have it reissued with the wrong gender marker
This was never about woman's sports
Jesus fucking christ these people are absolute ghouls.

Just hours after Trumpβs SOTU rant about trans kids, House Republicans introduced a nationwide school βDonβt Say Transβ & book ban bill. Defining trans people as βsexually explicit,β it would prohibit schools from discussing anything involving trans people.

Under a new policy released Thursday, the Trump Administration will test conversion therapy on trans people in prisons. It explicitly states that it aims to help trans people βrecover,β all the while forcibly detransitioning them both medically and socially.
