After literally six months of occasional attempts offline, I finally completed the dumbest Balatro challenge run, the Only Flush Five Challenge (as seen in that BelenosBear VOD). My VOD is on the channel for now, will edit into a video soon

hit 9 on an Ouija card and found Cloud 9 and Vagrant right after, an extremely fun way to play the Balatro

missed the deadline to sign up to volunteer at or play in AGDQ :( life is kind of busy so I may skip attending this year anyway, but still wish I had set aside the time to at least try for it

the main thing I have taken from this GDQ is that I need to design my own homebrew scotto clone

been trying to figure out why playing slay the spire scratches the same itch as running PTCG for awhile (other than the obvious cards / deck thing) and I think this is it. facing the same semi random challenges over and over in different ways depending on your build and RNG

once a speedgame has sufficiently random elements and tactical divergence from run to run it effectively becomes a roguelike. these are some of the most fun speedgames to play imo, even if the ceiling is inherently lower
