When A Thousand Blows came out, other historians had a dig too. A couple have done great stuff! Most journos and critics ripped off my blog without credit. Some cited and/or talked to me. David Olusoga, Jason Okundaye, Lanre Bakare, Sabrina Barr - thank you.
Hezekiah's true story is coming soon :)

Sepia photo of a slim 5ft 7 Black or Black mixed heritage Chinese man photographed in East London 1888 by Harry Carpenter. He wears a velvet material dark jacket, a waistcoat and trousers and stands in a photographer's studio against a painted parlour palm backdrop. His eyebrows have been drawn on, possibly by someone trying to replicate the photo in high quality.
Been researching this man, Hezekiah Moscow, since February 2019. He went by a nickname that was spelled a billion different ways so getting to the truth is TOUGH. Findings today for the book have blown open doors. New things after six years! AND all because of collaboration. Buy my book. Thanks π

Union with David Olusoga - Series 1: 1. The Making of Britain
David Olusoga tells the story of attempts to form a united Britain in the 17th and early 18th centuries, a period defined by religious and cultural divisions.
And I give you my last series - that makes exactly that point, using the colonisation of Ulster is the starting point and describing it as a 'colony'. It's not in this new series because that would be repetition.

Addendum: I quickly wrote something partially about the results, and the potential for misunderstanding, but also about history's profound irony.

Miriam Wannop, a white woman in her early 50s with hair in bun poses in doorway with three of her youngest children - a girl around 4, a taller girl around 14 (both dressed in white) and a boy around ten, small and slight in a flatcap, suit, long socks and boots.
The young boy from the previous photo in a smarter suit poses for a studio photo, he is in his late teens or early 20s.
Many of the 1880s boxers and wrestlers I research were of an age to have sons who served in WWI.
Wrestling Champion Jack Wannop and wife Miriam had 10 children, two dying as babies. All four adult sons served.
This is Miriam with little Hilda, May and Sidney.
Both May and Sidney died in 1918.
