By publishing these documents in English, I argue that the SDC used this communication medium as an instrument to develop its rebel diplomacy, targeting and influencing foreign audiences.

The SDC developed two main strategic narratives, one criticising the international system and its military and diplomatic interventions to solve the Syrian war, and one promoting itself as a different and responsible actor in Syria.
