Oh #america - what have you done?

Every day, further evidence (as if it’s needed) of the brain-free, empathy-free zone that’s been created by populism, fuelled by greed.

Wouldn’t be so bad, but we all have to live (perhaps even die?) by your misjudgement.

🤷🏼‍♂️ 🙄

Major investment to boost growth and cement Britain’s place as cultural powerhouse Over £270 million Arts Everywhere Fund for arts venues, museums, libraries and the heritage sector in major boost for growth

We welcome the £270m investment announced today - a vital recognition of the direct benefit of heritage on people and places. Much of our cultural infrastructure, from museums to theatres, is also part of our heritage that will benefit from this funding.

Bernie Sanders shares his takeaways from the Trump Inauguration
YouTube video by ONEST NETWORK Bernie Sanders shares his takeaways from the Trump Inauguration

The absurd statements from the ghastly Trump are only half the drama. All the things Trump didn’t say are the issues we need to stand up for, to bring about a fairer society where democracy isn’t undermined by oligarchs. Go, Bernie …

Shakespeare knew a tempest when he saw one. The ghastliness of Musk’s nazi salute at the inauguration says everything about the risks of electing politicians who put power before people.

‘The ghosts are everywhere’: can the British Museum survive its omni-crisis? Beset by colonial controversy, difficult finances and the discovery of a thief on the inside, Britain’s most visited museum is in deep trouble. Can it restore its reputation?

If you care about museums, ghosts are a concern …

“a museum of the world, for the world” but the world hasn’t agreed.

Happy Winter Solstice to all those in the northern hemisphere! The precise moment to celebrate is 9:21am GMT. Today in London is only 7 h, 49 min & 42 s long.

Hopeless era in British politics, when a person well known and widely reported for his misogynist, homophobic observations is “elevated” to the Upper House. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Makes no sense to lock up a person of her age. Get her a tag, even an iPhone Apple tag, a “find Gaie” tag, but don’t clog up the prison system ffs.

“Lost the cod war” is a ridiculous measure. Politicians lost the cod war. Frigates weren’t designed to be maritime bumper cars, but they helped win the Falklands and the Cold War.
Battle of the Atlantic? West Africa Squadron? Cromwell’s Robert Blake, against all comers?
C’mon Dan, pick the battles.

Once again, a leader who seems unable to do the right thing. The Archbishop of York has mishandled a case and does not know when to go. He should go. Now.
To her very considerable credit, @helenannhartley.bsky.social has the judgement and moral courage to say what we all think - loudly and clearly.

The most worrying aspect is not Fiona Bruce, the BBC or Nigel Farage … it’s a reckless electorate, weary of dumb politicians and their soon-broken pledges and generally shabby values. Oh yes, we the people have been ill-served, and now we’re chucking it right back at ‘em. Be afraid, be very afraid.

When an archbishop has such poor judgement … and fails to understand how to say “sorry” … and when the institution he leads has yet to clean up its act.
Wow, why is this church still “established” and - despite evident failings - allocated seats in the Upper House?

People would join if the jobs were recognised as “first careers” - as a step towards a lifetime of quality work, with roles explicitly structured to generate recognised skills, certificated trades and transferable competencies.

As it is, “underpaid, overstretched and unskilled” is a poor deal.
