The show still has elements and characters I adore (mainly Akira, Momoko, Igam and X-1 Mask) and some of the sickest fights in the franchise, but a lot of the show just feels so undercooked, so I can't help but be indifferent towards Maskman.

I also thought Tube being a fantasy underground empire was a huge stylistic disconnect from Maskman's team of martial artists. The villains outside of Igam also aren't that interesting to me sadly. I saw Bioman and Changeman years after Maskman and was astonished by how great Gear and Gozma are

Maybe I'm just spoiled by more overt kungfu Sentai like Dairanger and Gekiranger, but I've always thought Maskman's martial arts/qigong aspect very underutilized. We only really got martial arts-dedicated episodes for Akira and Momoko (which is probably the reason why they're my favorite characters)

I think The First is the worse movie but I still find it laughably bad as opposed to Shin KR which I thought was just mediocre. The former was boring but has moments like water crystals, Hongo-Hayata-Ruriko love triangle, Shocker kaijins being guys in leather suits, that turned it so-bad-its-good.
