Japanese rice crackers (te-yaki senbei) are traditionally made by grilling rice dough over charcoal, often sun-dried for days to achieve a deep, smoky, and crunchy texture, very different from the supermarket rice crackers most people know #japan #snack #ricecracker #kyoto #foodsky #travel #rice

BTW, the white ones are not unripe strawberries, they are fully ripe and bursting with sweet juicy flavour. These are Shiroi Hoseki (White Jewel)

One big perk of world travel is the diversity, availability and deliciousness of local fresh fruit. Japanese fruit, unlike the tasteless U.S. varieties, is juicy, sweet and full of flavour. So THIS is what a strawberry should taste like! #strawberry #freshfruit #cheapeats #japan #travel #food

I've been to 79 countries and can honestly say that I've never seen the snack "Roasted Stingray Fin". Not something that I would buy again. Strangely cottony texture and unnecessarily sweet for some reason. Hard pass #japan #stingray #snack #budgetfood #travel #cheapeats #familymart #konbini

Daiso, a 100 Yen store in Japan is equivalent to Dollar Tree or Poundland. You can buy almost anything you want very cheaply. Have a hankering for a cooked, buttered ear of corn? Aisle 7. Just don't eat it in the store #daiso #100yen #corn #snack #kyoto #japan #dollarstore #cheapeats #travel

I don't try that many sweets since they're often over-the-top cloying, but these inexpensive Matcha Truffles from Lawson have a rich cocoa flavour, a good bite and a slightly bitter matcha coating to offset the light sweetness #matcha #truffle #lawson #snack #chocolate #japan #food #travel #kyoto

This Japanese cheese snack was surprisingly good. At first bite, I stopped chewing and thought "Wait, is this supposed to be crunchy?" ๐ฒTurns out, it is. Iburigakko is a smoked pickled daikon radish. The combo works really well #japan #snack #cheese #iburigakko #streetfood #travel #food #budget

Who would have guessed that sugarcane juice could be healthy? Turns out it is a superfood packed with minerals, vitamins & antioxidants and aids digestion, liver function, and immunity. Just don't drink it by the gallon. Bogotรก, Colombia #sugarcane #juice #superfood #snack #colombia #streetfood

Does it feel a bit weirdly ironic eating tongue with your tongue? Yes. But was this snack off-the-charts amazing? Also, an emphatic yes. Like salami, but ramped up several notches on the deliciousness scale #japan #kyoto #familymart #salami #tongue #cheapeats #foodsky #snack #beef #travel

In the US, I wouldn't go into a 7-11 on a bet, but in Japan I'm all over it, on a quest to find new, deeply troubling snacks. I found ready-to-eat chicken hearts, as one does, and amazingly, they weren't displayed near the vape pens. They were also quite tasty #seveneleven #japan #snacks #foodsky

Making mochi at Nikishi Market, Kyoto, Japan. I'm not much of a sweet tooth but the sweets in Japan are not as cloying as in the US since they use much less sugar #mochi #nikishi #market #japan #kyoto #japanese #sweets #dessert #budgettravel #cheapeats #travel #foodsky #food

Cherry blossom season (Hanami) is fast approaching in Japan and cherry blossom (Sakura) flavoured items are everywhere. The season runs from March to May, depending on region, but the blossoms only last for two weeks or so #cherry #cherryblossom #japan #foodsky #food #sakura #hanami #travel #pink

Yep, I thought so too, so I gave it a go. It was much better than I thought it was going to be :-) Crunchy, with a creamy sauce, a bit like cole slaw but next level

Tokyo Skytree Food Hall. I couldn't decide which flavour of gelato to order so I asked her what her favourite was and she said "Roasted Sweet Potato". Huh. So I tried it and it was scrumptious. Who knew? #tokyo #skytree #gelato #foodsky #japan #food #fjapanese #travel #budgettravel #travelfood

I love this philosophy. I keep a large Ziploc bag in my freezer to save veggie scraps and one for protein scraps and when they get full, I make a large batch of nutritious soup. My ex used to call it "Garbage Soup" but ate every drop of it

I grew up in Eastern Canada and this is a standard school field trip. We would start by learning to tap the trees and would then be walked all the way though the process until the delicious end, the tasting room. Not many people know that maple syrup is actually highly nutritious
