People who are spend a lot of time being concerned about the masculinity crisis should be very concerned with how integrated sports betting is into the actual TV broadcasts now. FOX is just straight up talking about FanDuel and parlays and it’s going to lead a lot of people to ruin.

hmm that doesn’t seem to make mathematical sense since the global population will increase by 2 billion people. For any discrete set of basic facts, say 6 facts, if you pick two random people on earth, the chance that they agree on all six will go up because there will be a larger base population.

Acetaminophen... looking through the White House's links that they provided, none of the links support the conclusion, "may cause," but rather, "possible risk factor." Notable from one of the linked studies is that acetaminophen usage increases with age and parental age is already a known factor.

I'm curious if anyone on bluesky #math #science or whatever other communities are out there might have some ideas.

One solution that has been proposed is to use a, "time lock," which could be a way to go, e.g. don't give the position until an amount of time has passed, however the problem with that is, different markets move at different speeds in the real world.

Mathematically, I know there must be a better way. Basically the downside of this design is that even if you come in with a huge bet in a low volume market, you get zero position to start out with, which is confusing to new users.

My rational for this design was to not reward those coming in and placing a bet at the end of a low volume market just to carve out a position for themselves with a tiny bet, to immediately sell out and steal an opposing side's position.

I along with @osinttechnical.bsky.social and others have developed an open source prediction market from scratch. Here is the math behind how positions get calculated. I designed in a couple principles in the math. 1. Earlier bets always take precedence. 2. Artificial lock on placing a bet last.

Similar feeling I get passing by the graveyard for another friend of mine who died at 21. I got to live my life. They did not. There’s nothing I can do to bring them back, even for a moment. There is no positive message to be extracted from any of this.

At the start of summer I visited the grave of a friend who passed away at 17. Still there, just as I remember it on the day of his funeral 25 years ago, except now his father’s grave was next to it. There’s a dispassionate finality to the march of time that a child’s death reveals.
