Noticed this when Windows update KB5063878 broke your fucking SSD and yet people were awfully indifferent about it yet when you tell them they need to type "sudo apt-get steam" in the terminal to install steam then that's proof that linux is a shitty consumer-unfriendly OS

noticing a weird double standard a lot of people have where something going wrong on windows is to be expected but a much milder and easier to solve thing going wrong on linux is proof that it's completely unreasonable for anyone to suggest that they use it as an alternative to windows

Don't worry I've been there too, Used Windows all my life just until a couple years ago. Started out on Ubuntu and Mint at first and moved to other distros as I got more used to the Linux ecosystem. Whatever you choose, be assured there's always people eager to help!

If you want to try out a distro that's more focused on gaming, then CachyOS or Bazzite are probably your best bets.

If you have no prior experience Linux, then I'd say Mint. It's very easy to setup, has the most Windows-like Desktop Environment (it's called Cinnamon) and the community is huge so issues will generally be easy to resolve

Proton (developed by Valve) is a fork of Wine, which is basically just a program that translates internal Windows OS system calls to Linux system calls, which makes most Steam games work on Linux. Lutris is a program that allows you to manage and install games (not just steam ones) more easily

I'm always fascinated by how in some games you'll get better performance on a linux distro than on windows DESPITE all the translation of syscalls happening in proton.
