I think i can relate to that: the need to have some kind of structure to hang onto when creativity can go anywhere?

We also agreed that when a story idea rises from our subconscious minds, that tends to be because writing that story will provide therapy that we currently need...

One of the things we agreed on was that story ideas work best when they're fresh in your head.

When you find an old idea in a notepad, it's hard, and possibly unwise, to mentally inhabit that idea again. Because you're a different person now, with different concerns.

I have done exactly that with a character before, using 'myself' to suggest pretention. But yes, misuse of 'myself' has become so rife that it's debatable how well it works. Myself simply doesn't know what to do.
