depending on what you want to use it for - the firestick may not be the best option. I use a nvidia shield as my main device - its overkill for what I use it for - but its stll as snappy as when I got it.

No, its probably an older model where they have updated the OS and it runs like a dog. This is why its better to get a box / stick than use the "smart" features of a tv - they get slower over time - easier to replace a stick than a tv.

Not sure where you are based but we generally don't have home transfer data limits anymore. (to a degree) and OpenReach are plodding along with the fibre to the premises role out. A rasberry pi with some storage should be powerful enough to do it all. But thats me being stubborn in what I want.
