β€˜Things keep evolving into anteaters.’ Odd animals arose at least 12 separate times Findings speak to the dramatic impact ants and termites can have on mammalian evolution

Crab-like creatures are famed for having evolved five times in evolutionary history. But anteaters have evolved at least 12 times--in half the evolutionary span. Cool story by @jakebuehler.bsky.social for @science.org

Alright. In my next project I'm going to have separate point & vector types, as they should be. We have this at work in our C++ engine and I can't go back. This guards against things like accidentally adding together two Vector3's that represent points. #GameDev #MadeWithUnity

At some point you’ve gotta lean into this branding. It’s making this site seem rad as hell.

Our team has spent years pouring ourselves into this.

Some of the creatures I designed are among the best of my career, if I may say so. I have even been able to work a little with the lore team. I cant wait to share it.

Reconstruction of two species of Aetosaurs. Top: Typothorax coccinarum. Bottom: Paratypothorax andressorum

Why is my book taking so long to finish? Well, one of many reasons are Aetosaurs! They are very complicated to reconstruct AND my book has a lot of them! πŸ˜… But Aetosaurs are awesome!

Aetosaurs are pseudosuchians, and thus related to modern crocodilians

Today is #WorldCrocodileDay and to celebrate here is Plesiosuchus mansellii, a super interesting marine crocodilian relative that lived during the Late Jurassic in Europe

Plesiosuchus was a thalattosuchian, a group of crocodylomorph that evolved extreme aquatic adaptations

No, those wolves in the news yesterday are NOT dire wolves. To be clear those are Gray Wolves with just a few genes modified based on Dire Wolf DNA through CRISPR

Lydon: fossil plants sorta get representation in #JurassicPark as Sattler does discuss plant blindness... but she's a bit weird in the film, not really a palaeobotanist. Some game projects do give fair coverage to plants!

I wasn't really sure what to share today as all of my most recent art is still secret. But here's something I don't think I've shared here:
This is a cladogram showing all the major groups of plants (living and extinct), which I put together a while back!!!

Could it be that I'm actually playing a VIDYAGAME on #Twitch today??

You better believe it. I'm currently extolling the virtues of SAURIAN, the best dinosaur simulator game currently available -- and I'm waxing lyrical about its depiction of the Hell Creek flora and fauna

5 Calls Spend 5 minutes. Make 5 calls. Make your voice heard.

Okay, I cannot recommend 5calls.org enough. Enter your address and it will find all your reps (federal and state). AND give you a list of issues to call about AND which reps to call about each of them AND a little script for each, in case it's helpful. They have an app, too.

To be clear, biology abhors a binary. We try to classify things like species and sexes in neat boxes, but biology squirms out of those boxes, bursts through, releases a cascade of hormones and changes into something new.

Time for us all to be as ungovernable as biology.
