Concert day today! Some tickets available on the door at St Alfege's #Greenwich for Aaron Copland's fabulous cantata In the Beginning and well-loved works by Elgar, Stanford, Tavener and more. A not too lengthy concert with no interval, drinks afterwards

Wow, that’s not the normal kind of end-of-tenure statement…

How about a Friday afternoon pick-me-up? This is the best way you're going to spend your tea break today. My word.

Sibelius is my big blind spot, I’ve been looked at pitylingly by so many people on the account. I just can’t love it

Fair enough. I just can’t get excited about yet more Tchaik and Sibelius. I understand about bums on seats of course

I was a 20 year Sibelius user and switched to Dorico when it came out - and haven’t regretted it for a second

Excellent review. I too had real problems with the Holloway, although found at least *some* redeeming features - but maybe that was just me justifying to myself the time I spent reading it. (I don't think I'd have finished it if I wasn't reviewing.)

The cover of volume 3 of the Michael Palin diaries

Just finished volume 3 of the Michael Palin diaries. I know it's a cliche that he's the nicest man in Britain, but he really is a lovely voice and personality to spend time with

I didn't do the whole score, just the in-story music. Was a blast to work on, and such a shame the cinema release was sub-optimal - it could have been a big hit with a fair wind behind it

Agree with this (and not just because I wrote the songs). It's a great film and deserves to be better known. Watch now on iPlayer

I think the important (and well-made) point is that the more unexplored the territory the greater the propensity to hallucinate, and the danger is these hallucinations become β€˜fact’
