05.09.2025 00:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm sorry, the location on this being Cary is distracting me
Why Cary of all places?
Of course having written in such detail about it, that means I'll never get around to building it. But I still think a keyboard and system command palette is the best way to interact with a computer. Lots of power and potential there alone, while still being able to transition back into CLI or [β¦]
21.08.2025 00:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm knee deep again in this idea of a command-palette oriented operating system...
_Everything_ runs through command palette plugins; the plugin system would let you register search providers and global-search entries (which also includes "home screen" list entries you can scroll through) [β¦]
I write a lot of technological mumbo jumbo and it never goes anywhere. I have no-one to blame but myself for this. I should take this idea under my wing and develop a proof-of-concept forked client, reference list server a la Chatmail Relay, and the relevant patches to Chatmail Core.
11.08.2025 05:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0With a differing `From:` and `Reply-To:` header using proxy addresses, you can facilitate "protected" DMs, where it's gated by the server so you know how a given person was able to contact you, and the list server is able to reject it if it's unwantedΒΉ. That's the preferred pattern, although [β¦]
11.08.2025 02:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Another thing I'm thinking about is how DeltaChat/chatmail could use the existing mailing-list model to facilitate larger groups. Hell, maybe a full blown replacement for Discord servers later down the line!
Something along the lines of, to join the group the user clicks a link or invite (which [β¦]
I'm toying with it in a chat with myself (another profile) and, for apps, it's nice that you can have, say, multiple calendars in a chat. But they're not labeled, so you'll just have Calendar (1 event), Calendar, Calendar (5 events)... some way to label apps in the list, maybe after the fact [β¦]
11.08.2025 01:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I think the biggest thing I want in #DeltaChat is a "unified inbox" where, unless I specifically exclude it, chats for all of my profiles are listed. Any duplicate contacts would show the profile icon on the list, and if I have multiple accounts in the same group for some reason, it would let me [β¦]
11.08.2025 01:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0Something I realized recently when I found a phrase for it: protocols can only go so far, then they get stuck in the past. XMPP is very much like this, HTTP and email are, and of course Central development gets around all of that -- and you can still use protocols.
The best example of this [β¦]
The certificates on my XMPP account have expired yet again, there's also some unknown DNS-related issue that's had my account defederated for a good while now. Honestly I don't feel like trying to solve it and there's not much reason to, so I think I'm just going to turn it off.
06.08.2025 17:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm toying with the idea of a "KeePassZ" which would be primarily for Windows 10/11 with modern Fluent design, to match and blend well with this system. I wonder if I can somehow set up a WASM plugin API, that other apps can implement.

03.08.2025 01:23 β π 0 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0AuthPass lowkey sucks.
.kdbx is a pretty widely deployed format for password managers across all platforms. Having an implementation per platform is preferable; it means that each app is built to work very well with its platform. The thing that holds it down, like anything not centrally [β¦]
hacker: i am spying on you through your webcam
linux user: omg you got it working?
AuthPass is written in a language & framework I'm extremely familiar with, so it's definitely on the table.
02.08.2025 18:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It might be technically possible to build one for the other. KPXC seems to be built in Qt, and I've seen Qt apps be built for Android (such as SDRAngel!). If KPDX uses Jetpack Compose, it might be possible to port it to desktop. But neither of them are designed for the other platform. So I have [β¦]
02.08.2025 18:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ideally, the KeePass implementation(s) I use would be open-source and cross-platform, so that I don't have to modify two separate programs to, for instance, add masked-email generation. The best ones out there, KeePassXC (desktop) and KeePassDX (Android) fulfill the first but not the second [β¦]
02.08.2025 18:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0making a new KeePass database for my many, many passwords...
One very notable thing I'm missing from KeePass (DX) coming back from Bitwarden is generating masked email addresses.
And the main reason I moved away from KeePass in the first place was that it didn't play nice with the sandboxing [β¦]

the thing that bugs me the most about Iceshrimp is that when I go "back" from looking at a thread, I lose my place in the list.
I'm not moving to other Fedi software, there's not really anything left for me here I can't get in a better place.

That's 5D-educational chess.

Not really sure what the distinction between the other two states would be, now that "done" is more distinct & intentional. I guess "opened" notifications (not Done, not snoozed) would have less emphasis, and wouldn't count towards the total (maybe just for a few hours, before reverting to [β¦]
19.07.2025 02:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A more complete idea: when you have notifications, a Dynamic Island appears (either next to your cutout/punchhole, or next to your clock) that has a bell icon and the number of unread notifications in orange. Pressing this opens the conversation bubbles UI to the "Add" page, which would be [β¦]
19.07.2025 02:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0update: there's an app I have (Interstellar, the Mbin/Lemmy client) that has notifications you can open and NOT have them disappear. I know GitHub does basically the same thing too. So one attribute this Notifications 2.0 would have is an "unseen, opened, and done" system, so you can open [β¦]
19.07.2025 01:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Once upon a time there was an experimental flag that put notifications in a conversation bubble. Can I still do that somehow?
I have an app Dynamic Spot that re-creates the Dynamic Island, and mostly I use this for controlling/previewing music playback. It has an odd hack to support timers and [β¦]
another minor thing is that the rest of my family doesn't know how to use the "edit" feature so I end up getting multiple messages in case they want to correct themselves... which pushes other messages out of the notification
I actually like the conversation bubbles (Android), but some apps I [β¦]
There are also apps that don't have fine enough categories (say, VRChat), so I might only want to be push-notified for events from certain groups or invites from favorite friends, but it doesn't provide a way to do that.
And email notifications bug me too, because they show so much boilerplate [β¦]
