For the second time in a month, several communities in Calgary are facing a serious issue: Currently, Station 31—serving the communities of Panorama Hills/Harvest Hills/Coventry Hills/County Hills/Livingston—is without a Tower Truck, a Bush Buggy (Pickup) in its place. A Tower truck (also called an aerial ladder truck) is a critical piece of apparatus in firefighting and emergency response. Its importance lies in its ability to perform multiple essential functions that smaller or traditional fire engines cannot. Here are the key reasons why Towers are vital: 🔥 Elevated Rescue Operations 🚒 Aerial Fire Fighting and Water Application 🏠 Access to difficult areas and Ventilation A Bush Buggy is for wildland ops, and carries zero ladders. We do not have enough fire apparatus to adequately protect Calgarians. Whether it's a house fire, vehicle accident, or medical emergency, response times matter — and without the proper equipment, our firefighters are stretched dangerously thin. 🔥 Imagine needing help and no truck is available. 🚒 Imagine a fire spreading faster than help can arrive. 🏠 Imagine losing everything because the tools to save it just weren't available. It's a community safety crisis. We need our local leaders to recognize that public safety must be a top priority. Every second counts in an emergency, and without the right resources, lives and property are at risk.
