"I still get discouraged. I feel I can do a lot better, and I suppose I'll go on striving until I die. Sometimes things get very lean, and I feel like throwing the horn out of the window. There's nothing on earth I like better than playing music."
Happy Birthday Booker Ervin

"People have to express their individual way. I don't copy after no one; I'm inspired by other people but it's my own ideas, it's my own music most of the time and it's original. It will always be that way, as long as I can play."
Happy Birthday Illinois Jacquet

"If you think about it and plan it you're missing the point, ideally it's just pure reaction and exchange of energy. It only happens with people who have that knowledge, when it's flowing it's very powerful, but the chemistry has to be right."

Pete Deuchar recorded very little, so for this to be his 2nd recording is amazing!
Kid Thomas Party (2005 reissue of 1957 10” LP)
Recorded at a private party in New Orleans 1957, Pete gets to jam (and drink) with his heroes. It’s very rough and ready, but a lot of fun 👍😎

This is the first thing they’ve done that isn’t modern jazz. As usual though it’s very limited, 100 copies I think

Just finished reading Jazz In Britain’s latest book
Northumbrian Blues:The Lost World Of Big Pete Deuchar Vol.1 1935-60 by Colin Harper
As well as telling Pete's story it also tells of the 50s trad jazz scene, particularly in NE England.
A great and informative read, very recommended 👍😎

"Nothing ever dies; everything is infinite. We've been taught a watered-down version of what "time and space" is, that we're in a three-dimensional reality, which we are not. We're in a multidimensional reality."

They’re the kiddies when it comes to Dixieland jazz, they used to be in Bob Crosby’s bands (Bob H wrote ‘big noise from Winetka’). They later formed The World’s Greatest Jazzband. Anything with either of them on is well worth picking up

I’ll always buy radio transcriptions, for a few years (42-45) they were the only recordings, due to the strike. If it weren’t for them there’d be a big gap in jazz development
