Born an allen to two worlds, being ostracized Japan but not fitting in the American lifestyle in the states and losing his parents and only connections to his home countries, he finds himself building a world with snake above all nations, a home for those without one, only for this home and all of his soldiers, who he considered family, to be killed and destroyed in front of him with nothing he could do but watch. Ten years he tried to build the dream back from scratch promising revenge and to get back everything he and snake built, only to realize he's been played by snake the whole time, the man he revered as legend, and it sends him into a bitter spiral for the rest of the series. The dissonance between the two versions you see of him is jarring, one happy and always making jokes in your ear vs an angry man only focused on revenge and the ghosts of the soldiers he's lost, it's just so sad to watch. This is on top of the fact that you know from the first game in the solid franchise that he is destined to die alone in the cold with none of his dreams fulfilled and the one to pull the trigger is an elderly Russian man dressed like a cowboy from the Wild West. This isn’t even the first example of political violence this year: Minnesota’s house speaker was shot and killed just three months ago, as was her husband. One of her colleagues was critically wounded. What was their rhetoric then?

I don't feel any particular joy in Charlie Kirk getting shot. It's not the sort of thing I celebrate.

But I also struggle to care when someone gets the very thing they've wished for openly, on multiple occasions, in multiple iterations, for literal years, b/c they thought it would be someone else.
