Super thread !

Great video from @mixedlinguist.bsky.social. I noticed the rise of the glottal stop in the past couple of years, though I didn’t know how to describe what I was hearing, figuring some people just don’t enunciate the same. Turns out it’s both regional and generational. Fascinating.

Word of the day is a favourite for this time of year. To be ‘crambazzled’, in old Yorkshire dialect, is to be prematurely aged by excess drinking or partying.

How social learning amplifies moral outrage expression in online social networks
Social reinforcement and norm learning interact with social media design to amplify moral outrage in online social networks.
Twitter trains you to create more outrageous content. From 2018-2021 my team developed a tool to measure outrage on Twitter. Here's our paper showing that “likes” and “shares” teach people to express more outrage over time. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

The copyright statement from Ephemeral City which reads in part: No part of this book may be used as data for ‘training’ any large language model or as part of any machine learning or neural network architeture. Human creaivity cannot be replicated by doing maths with stolen art. Altman, Andressen, and all their cronies can get fucked. Enquires should be made to the publisher.
Publisher: Do you want to put an LLM clause in the copyright statement?
Me: Definitely. How specific can we get?
Publisher: As specific as you like.
