afaik cn names are usually treated like wishes for what the child would grow up to be. however my setting emphasizes choosing a name for yourself later in life, ex. jiuwei isn't her actual given name and would be weird if it was

how do you come up with Chinese names for your characters? I'm writing a story with Chinese characters, and despite being Chinese myself I don't know how to come up with names that seem.... plausible? since naming culture an western and Chinese are very different

oh god im thje worst person to ask about this. my chinese is so bad. i usually just cobble 2 syllables that best describe the character using this dictionary. if i draw a blank i just ask my fluent friends for suggestions fdsjkgk. nothing wrong w/ borrowing real names tho

2 questions!! when making a story do you start with the characters or the plot/setting? also, if you could live in any region of Empyr, which would you pick?

1. i made most of the chars first, it took a very long time for me to develop a world to put them in, let alone any story 😭
2. tough question bc nether is my favorite aesthetically but it's a shithole LOL so probably tian (works out since i'm chinese)
