The picture shows the Church of Agia Sofia in Monemvasia, Greece. The church was built in the 12th century and is located at the highest point of Monemvasia Castle. The church is an impressive example of Byzantine architecture. It was originally dedicated to Panagia Hodegetria (the Virgin who shows the way). During Ottoman rule, the church was converted into a mosque, but after Greek independence it was returned to Christian worship. The church is one of the most important monuments in the region and offers a sweeping view of the Aegean Sea.

We can remind people to be safe without making them terrified to exercise one of their most basic natural rights.

While safety and situational awareness should always be considered, most protests are not violent or anything close to it. This is especially true for planned protests, where there is often coordination between event organizers and local police.

All the people prepping for the big Tea Party rallies in 2010 didn't spend the night before lecturing each other about how that wasn't going to result in Obamacare being repealed in 2011. Everyone around us knows organizing and public shows of strength are important. No one thinks its the last step.

Call me old fashioned, but refusing hearings and a vote would have created a terrible precedent. It's bad enough McConnell did it. And I don't think 10-20% of Dems equals a ton. From that perspective, most Dems actually opposed them.
