🏛️ ICCS is used to measure a new suggested target for at least 85% of eighth grade students to demonstrate an adequate level of civic knowledge.

💻 ICILS is used to track progress towards one the 7 EU-level targets: that the share of low-achieving eighth-graders in computer and information literacy should be less than 15% by 2030.

🔦 The European Commission released their 2025 Education and Training Monitor last month. It's a really interesting annual report with the latest facts and figures about EU education systems, and the tracked progress towards reaching 7 EU-level targets for education and training.

💡 TIMSS 2023 was released in December last year. We published new teacher snippets based on the data to highlight insights that would be practically useful to teachers.

The focus was on findings that suggest a positive attitude toward learning mathematics positively impacts achievement.

📣 This week, representatives from all nine participating jurisdictions met with ACER, IEA, and the OECD for the final NPM meeting of the second IELS cycle, in which we discussed the experiences and outcomes of the Main Study, and received presentations on sampling and data suppression. 🙌

Education is a vital tool for empowering young people to be agents of change, and IEA studies can play an important role in honing this tool. This 2-minute video breaks down how our studies work.

📍A big milestone for TEG this year was the publication of IEA’s Technical Standards for International Large-Scale Assessment, which they developed to reflect over 25 years of evolution in the field of international large-scale assessments since the first Technical Standards was published in 1999.

⚙️ A vital committee in the IEA ecosystem is our Technical Executive Group (TEG).

TEG is consulted on all technical aspects of study implementation, from survey design and instrument construction, to sampling and statistical analysis. One of the regular TEG meetings is ongoing in Hamburg this week.

🙌 How well students are prepared for study, work, and life in a digital world is critically important, and the work of ICILS National Research Coordinators (NRCs) and their teams will play a huge role in how different education systems approach related challenges in an evidence-informed way.

As with all IEA study release, the work only begins for national teams once results are publicised. We would like to take a moment to recognize the great work that national centers do towards turning data into action in their respective countries.
