Yesterday, after IEA's Dr. Lauren Musu gave an update on R&D progress, Dr. Anne Traynor from Purdue University and Mr. Umut Atasever from the Sampling Unit at IEA Hamburg, presented on their respective Call 3 research outcomes.

Since then, the GA have been treated to an annual update on the progress of the fund, with presentations on selected completed outcomes. We are proud to support innovation and research in our field.

🧪 In 2021, the IEA R&D (Research and Development) Fund was created to improve the science and methodology of IEA studies, ensuring that they remain at the forefront of international large-scale assessments in education.

💫 In this morning's closed session at GA 2025, GAs learned about the upcoming TIMSS 2023 Longitudinal report & results.

It's a ground-breaking study: the first student-level longitudinal extension of TIMSS.

🖥️ Day 1 of the 2025 IEA General Assembly closes with highly anticipated updates on ICILS 2028 from study director Julian Fraillon.

GAs heard about the progress of the current cycle with particular emphasis on upcoming on AI & digital wellbeing.

It's been a big year for the newest addition to IEA's suite of studies: LaNA.

The new LaNA study director, Dana Kelly, introduced the GA to LaNA, shared results from the LaNA 2023 Linking Study & gave insight into what the future has in store.

🏛️Next up, updates on the progress of ICCS 2027 from the international study center at the University of Bath.

This included hearing about the exciting new grade 11 module & the great work being done on instrument development.

📚 All the GA attentively taking in updates from our colleagues at Boston College on the current cycles of PIRLS.

PIRLS 2026 involves 58 education systems. Now a fully digital assessment, this year saw the successful completion of the vital field test, including over 54,000 students!

📅 Next week, the 66th IEA General Assembly (GA) meeting will take place in Madrid.

The GA meets annually to review IEA projects and receive reports on various aspects of the association, including current and future studies, membership, and finance.
