It seems almost like a cultural shift. Or a result of being raised a certain way, not ever playing sports or I don’t know what really. I get it, winning is fun, losing often isn’t per se.

But it’s almost like it’s a phobia of failure paired with putting too much emphasis on status from a ‘win.’

Same. She might actually be my favorite manlike character. Tough to say.

And def agreed about mercenaries in those games.

I feel like you have to have a minor in psychology for that career too haha.

Dunno, felt like equipment in destiny became obsolete every major update. Until the would re-buff favorite items a year later 😅

But I get what you’re saying for sure. It really is a different game with a different ‘goal’ and if players don’t have the mindset for it then it’s really not for them.

The Marathon server slam really showcased a mentality split amongst players that I’ve noticed in fighting games many times over.

There are those who expect to be good early on and get upset easily. And there are those who just focus on learning regardless of win or loss.

Yeah, honestly it’s a welcomed change for me. Unless it’s a JRPG I’d much rather opt for a jam-packed, shorter game that offers replay incentive.

12 hours and 2 minutes. And I thought I was being pretty thorough, killed most enemies and such.

Even though combat didn’t feel as crisp or good to me as say 4 or 5, Mercenaries mode is gonna go SO hard.

(Assuming they’re gonna add it at some point)

Might do a spoilery photo dump later on. Will mark it accordingly.

Beat my first run. Overall I loved it, but this was a weird one for me.

The most impressive RE, no question. Audio, visuals, haptics, variety and scope. All insane.

On the other hand it felt like it had a bit of an identity crisis and felt empty or even soulless at times.

I’ve felt this to be true from the get go. The system just allows you to cut to the chase and play the player right away.

Only one full listen in but I def like it. Not a ton of immediate standouts but I ‘like’ about half the album already.

I pretty much like all the songs with Spanish or Indian lyrics. I think Damascus might be my favorite so far though.

Words cannot express how thankful I am to SEGA and RGG Studio for continuing to support VF and more specifically VF5.

I love many, many fighting games but nothing comes close to me compared to VF5.

Sorry rambling but if the story elements really speak to you with the hard sci-fi and such that you mentioned, maybe you can wait for someone to compile all the codexes and treat it like a book later on.

Don’t worry about it being pleasant or not. It was insightful for me and helps me sympathize with you and another who’s voiced similar thoughts on the game.

I am basically treating it as a multiplayer versus title with moments of neat interaction but your perspective totally makes sense.

The other thing I want to call out for RE9 is the haptics and use of the DualSense controller.

The rain blips, left/right foot sensation from walking, trudging through waist-deep water, and use in even the cutscenes is nuts. Maybe even better than Returnal somehow.
