AOL discontinues its dial-up internet, and we're just surprised they even offered it in 2025 Dial-up's days are numbered, after 34 years of service.

I was today years old when I learned that I could still access the internet via AOL dialup. I would have guessed that had already been discontinued a decade or two ago.

Gwen & I went to an early showing of The Naked Gun tonight. I was trepidatious going in, but it delivered on the funny! Certainly a worthy addition to the franchise -- it had some good-stupid jokes, some silly-smart bits, fun running gags, & a few true laugh-out-loud moments. Thumbs up from us!

Made it to Chicago, and United automatically rebooked me on to a flight on to SFO that will only be a few hours later than expected. I got a middle seat, but it is in an exit row. Sadly, no time to grab food between flights, though.

Whee! My flight to Chicago was delayed in the air due to weather, and then diverted to Dayton for refueling when the tanks got low.

It's an hour until my connecting flight leaves Chicago, and we haven't left our interim stop yet. I'm gonna go out on a limb & predict I won't make my next flight. 😕

Another fun day in Manhattan. We toured the UN building (and got to see the Security Council chambers), took a cab ride, had lunch with a colleague of mine at Katz Deli, experienced a New York summer thunderstorm, went by the Empire State Building, had gelato, & nearly melted from heat & humidity.

Today we walked to the Public Library, went through Grand Central Station, saw the lobby of the Chrysler Building, toured the aircraft carrier Intrepid (and the space shuttle Enterprise!), went to see Colbert, had a Chinese dinner, had a drink on the rooftop lounge, & watched Muppets Take Manhattan.

I've been looking forward to seeing tonight's show for quite some time; even before it was announced to be coming to San Francisco!

This is the required response to having to take these courses.

I believe there are legal requirements (That vary from state to state, and even sometimes at the city level) that everyone in that region needs to spend at least 2 hours on training. They may also -- in some places -- have time requirements for sub-sections.

It's a mess.

After visiting Paramount, we went next door to the Hollywood Forever cemetery to pay respects to some of the greats who have brought a lot of joy into my life.

Yesterday, we took the Paramount Studios backlot tour, where we got to hold a real Oscar, saw sound stages and production activity, visited the archives, sign studio, and prop room, and talked to some of the craftsmen who work there. Such a thrill to be where so much of Star Trek was created!

Tonight, Spencer and I went to see a comedy show at the Laugh Factory. It was a great lineup, featuring Bobby Lee, Crystal Marie, Arsenio Hall, Russell Peters, Adam Ray, Godfrey, and special surprise guests Tiffany Haddish and George Wallace. Fantastic show with over 3 hours of comedy!

In my opinion, this is one of the most beautiful football stations around.

Kicking off my trip to LA with Spencer by seeing a movie at the historic (Grauman's) Chinese Theater. This is a beautiful movie palace!

At SFO preparing to head down to SoCal for a few days fun with Spencer! Really looking forward to the catch-up time with him.

And, to start things off on a pampered note, I had a one-time pass for the United Lounge, so I'm waiting in peaceful comfort for my flight in a couple of hours.

It's not a terribly common flavor, but my favorite is Grape Nut ice cream. Terrific if you like malty flavors.
