Emissions, fossils fuels & deforestation are symptoms - not causes like overpopulation, cows & cars. That we discuss symptoms only is a feature and not a bug. Mitigation & adaptation are the same: - Birth control - Plant based - Local - Low tech

Compared to 1850, we still emit +3,000% more sulfur SO2.

The shocking decline of Earth’s microbiome – and how to save it Bacteria, fungi and other microbes, which are vital to life on Earth, were long thought impervious to threats endangering larger lifeforms. Now biologists are warning of a microbial extinction event

Nitrogen N2 forms about 78% of Earth's atmosphere, making it the most abundant chemical species in air. Bacteria are primary producers and only they fix nitrogen for all plants. Why do we know this? Because plants used to grow before humans added nitrogen fertilizer.

Nitrogen was the first planetary boundary that we have crossed. It was getting even worse since then and in recent years. Only severe wars and severe pandemics can reduce populations and consumption fast enough to prevent human extinction.

Nobody cares less about their personal and planetary health than Americans. Nobody cares less about animal suffering.

It takes time to process data. The study above is from 2024. The data is from 1992-2011.

"We observed a strong decline by around 50 % in total grasshopper abundance in our study plots between 1992 and 2011".

50% loss without changes in land use in 20y = "microbial #extinction event"

Grasshoppers are ancient. They have existed for 270 million years or even longer. Grasshoppers are some of the most genetically diverse animals and ecologically uber resilient. We called them pests. And yet, the drugs work. #Extinction

Status: There is always a crisis that is a threat to democracy and peace. We use this as an excuse for why we can and should continue our unquestioned aggression war on nature. We breed more humans, eat more animals and produce and drive more cars.

Instead of reducing populations & ending animal ag aka increasing primary production and albedo cooling - we are now consider solar radiation management #SRM via more sulfur aerosols, something that leads to acid rain and was therefore recently reduced IMO2020.

Primary is a key term that we deny.

Tropical rain forests may store more CO2 than boreal & conifer forests. But it is

But if ranking by actual cloud-forming aerosol production, the order becomes:
1️⃣ Monoterpenes (boreal & conifer)
2️⃣ Isoprene (tropical)
3️⃣ Sesquiterpenes
because SOA yield matters more than raw emission volume. #science

Unless we start reducing populations and eating animals rapidly, we will go extinct by 2100. The few primary production and BVOC resources that may be left will be destroyed by competition due to overpopulation.

Even if all humans were net zero today, no fossil fuels at all, if we added another 80 million new humans in 2026, we would need 2500m2 for each individual for food production. This means deforestation and this means fewer cooling clouds via fewer BVOCs.

On planets that are pre- life or have no organic life, dust acts as cloud condensation nuclei (CCNs). When humans burn organic materials like fossil fuels over the oceans - SO2 aerosols lead to more cooling clouds. But most cooling clouds on Earth are formed by Biogenic Volatile Compounds (BVOC)

#Climate models got forcing W/m2 feedback wrong. #Albedo via #clouds is decreasing & the Earth Energy Imbalance is increasing faster than expected. In contrast to other planets, clouds on Earth are often biogenic.
