QSA's 4in10 service is proud to be members of the @endchildpoverty.bsky.social coalition – which has campaigned tirelessly for the 2-child benefit cap to be scrapped.

This is a powerful reminder that policy CAN be reversed, and meaningful change IS possible. @4in10.bsky.social #Budget2025

Grief is hard enough: it's time to improve funeral support Thousands of people a year have to organise a funeral, while already in deep hardship. A new campaign aims to improve support.

β€œYou’d think that in your darkest, most desperate hour that there’d be somebody there to help you”. Lindesay from @quakersocialaction.bsky.social tells us more about their new campaign to #FixTheFEP - and the positive response it has already had.

The Funeral Expenses Payment (FEP) has restrictive eligibility criteria that don’t reflect real life.

Thousands are denied a payment each year, at a time when funeral costs have skyrocketed.

Mum didn't even really know what day of the week it was at that stage, and I explained that mum had got dementia.

[They said] No, that's fine, it needs to be in your mum's name.

It caused stress for me and for my family as well.'

Applying for the Funeral Expenses Payment (FEP) made it harder for Sue to focus on healing after losing her dad.

She and her mum were turned down for support with funeral costs.

'I was on Carers Allowance for supporting my dad and it was topped up by Universal Credit - so I would have been eligible to get the help [with funeral costs] off the DWP. And they said no.

I felt numb in a way, because you put off that grieving process and you deal with the finance side of it. I don’t know where my mental health was.

People do need that help and support.'

A graphic entitled 'The Facts about funeral poverty'. There are five facts with a line of explanation: 1) Funeral costs have skyrocketed. 2) It's a mental health issue. 3) It's a hidden crisis. 4) The FEP exists to help. 5) The FEP excludes thousands of low-income families each year. The graphic also includes '#FixTheFEP' and the Quaker Social Action logo.

Most of us will need the benefits system at some point. We believe it should treat us all with dignity and respect.

So Lindesay from our team was delighted to attend the launch today of the Turn2us campaign to #FixTheSystem and #StopTheStigma.
