Spent some quality time this afternoon talking Patriots and the post-Diggs landscape (as well as some good draft talk) with the crew from NESN’s “Boston Has Entered The Chat.”

The Patriots have signed linebacker Jesse Luketa.
Luketa, 27, was originally drafted by Arizona in the seventh-round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Penn State. The 6-foot-3, 260-pounder began his rookie season in 2022, and has played in 31 games with 31 total tackles, 3 sacks and 1 forced fumble.
Cross him off your list, New England.

We finish off the offensive side of the ball with the wide receivers:
Decision to release Stefon Diggs will determine how the Patriots evaluate the wide receiver position this offseason
Khyiris Tonga was the only member of the Patriots to play at least 10 snaps in all three phases over the course of the 2025 season.

His locker still stands. (Real ones know.)

Mark Anderson! Great call.
Cordarrelle Patterson might be in my personal top 5. Once asked him how he got better as a running back from one week (where he had something like 23 yards) to the next (where he had 75 or so). He thought a second before answering.
"Yards. Probably getting more yards."
That's still one of the greatest sports photos I've ever seen.
Only former Patriots' wide receiver to have a role in a zombie movie: www.imdb.com/title/tt1622...
Had to look it up to be sure. Per PFR, he was here from 03-05.

04.03.2026 23:36 — 👍 5 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Where does Diggs rank in the recent one-and-done guys in Foxborough? Better than Marty Bennett? How about Darrelle Revis? Is there another name or two in that same class?
04.03.2026 23:14 — 👍 16 🔁 0 💬 15 📌 0Don’t necessarily think so. (But also wouldn’t be surprised.) In the end, though, when it comes to the NFL and situations like this, I tend to default to money.

04.03.2026 21:39 — 👍 15 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Would imagine there’s a contingency plan in place, yeah. As we saw last year with Milton Williams, the market can be fluid. But have to believe there’s a plan here. Just a matter of execution.

IMO: The Patriots wanted Diggs back, but not at that cap number.
Both sides rolling the dice. Diggs is betting he can still merit a sizable payday on the free-agent market. And the Patriots need to figure out a way to replace his production (Alec Pierce? A.J. Brown? A mystery third WR?)
Diggs on Instagram. Looks like he will be released at the start of the new league year next week.

Agreed. I know Big Mike has probably put on a few unwanted lbs, but he remains technically sound.
I'll also say this: I pride myself in studying OL play really closely, and I still consider it the toughest position to really wrap my head around. So many variables and nuances to consider.
Getting some good replies to my OL analysis, all of which are completely fair. My reasoning for saying there was improvement was based largely on how far they came and the expectation I had for the group prior to the start of camp. From my positional preview in July:

Now, the offensive line.
After making a huge jump in 2025, can the Patriots’ offensive line take another step forward in 2026
My argument was they went from one of the worst in the league to somewhere near the middle of the pack. Instead of “jump to average,” I’d instead say “level up and be consistent.” Fair?
