Then, if it’s determines the country where they paid the tax is a treaty country, and the tax they paid is equal to or great than what they would have owed the federal government, then no tax is owed in the US.
I’m not an expert! Just my understanding from having lived it.
The UK doesn’t tax on income outside of the UK. At least I hope not, because I left 15 years ago. 😬
My understanding of the double tax treaties (as a US/British dual national who lived in Europe till 2010) is that US citizens must file taxes, regardless.
