A large part of the work we do is TNR. Very few of the community cats we trap are friendly. We temperament test every cat we trap, and if they're feral they are returned. Most of the colonies we work on have caretakers, so despite being outdoors they do have food and shelter.

This is true! It's our goal to get as many cats into homes as we can but there are times when we have nowhere to put them. If we're full and can't find another rescue to take them, friendly cats sometimes have to be TNR'd. We record these cases and go back for them when we have room.

Eartipping is required for TNR. It allows us to see at a distance that the cat is already fixed. It's done under anesthesia and immediately cauterized. It doesn't affect the cat's quality of life, and saves them being transported and anesthetized again unnecessarily.

Kiki is 4 months old. Normally that would be too old to start socializing, but the caretaker of her colony has been working with her since she was little.

Dirty Harry, an orange and white tabby, was trapped during a massive TNR event at a recycling plant overrun with cats. When he was brought in his white fur was completely grey with dirt and oil.

Nandor (brown and white), Marwa (tortie), Nadja (snowshoe Siamese) & Laszlo (tuxedo) were found under a bush. We were called to collect them when they started playing close to the road and the finder was afraid they would run out in front of a car.

Bacon, Waffles, Eggs, and Gravy are a little spicy, but they'll sweeten up in no time!

Something we see a lot in rescue is "I'll let her have one litter before I get her spayed." Cats can start breeding as young as 4 months old, and yes, siblings can and will breed. Puffball, a beautiful Siamese, snuggles one of her gorgeous white kittens.

Karma, a mostly feral tabby mom, has been raising her kittens at the shelter since the day after their birth. When they're old enough to leave her she will be spayed and returned to her outdoor community cat life. She has made it clear that she is not suited to be a pet at this time, but she has an outdoor cat house to go home to and her caretaker will continue to work with her. If she ever warms up to people we will welcome her back with open arms.

What happens when a very floofy cat lives outside for a year? Exposure to the elements and lack of brushing causes the fur to felt into mats. The mats can't be untangled, they have to be cut off.
