If you include council tax and VAT, the poorest 10% pay on average 48% of their income in tax. The richest 10% just 39%.

Most things are taxed, essential or not. We pay VAT on most food, energy, water, transport, most private healthcare, clothes, funerals - you name it. The question is why should a system designed to entrech and enhance inherited, unearned privilege, with each generation, be the exception. 2/3
