11.02.2026 01:30 — 👍 2 🔁 2 💬 0 📌 0It is so disappointing to see that the government of Pres. Bernardo Arévalo is winding down the Cuban doctors program. Cuban doctors provided much needed medical attention in rural communities that were often abandoned by the state. This also hands the far-right a victory they've sought for years.

Removing a head of state by military force not authorized by Congress and claiming that the US will take over and run the country is colonialism that is illegal even by the aggressor country’s own standards.

NEW: The Venezuelan nationals the US government sent to El Salvador in March and April were tortured and subjected to other abuses, including sexual violence.
In a new report, HRW and @cristosal.bsky.social provide a comprehensive account of the treatment of these people in El Salvador.
📣 We are excited to share that Alexandre Bevington joined our department as a new faculty member in October 2025.
Alex’s research focuses on how remote sensing and geospatial technology can help us understand watershed dynamics in Northern British Columbia.
Exciting!

Pete Hoekstra is fundamentally unfit to be ambassador. His record of race-baiting and extremist disinformation needs to be called out.

- from John Washington’s new piece on the search for the disappeared in Guatemala

Great story by my friend John Washington who interviewed Rosalina Tuyuc, who is one of the greatest advocates for finding the disappeared in Guatemala and a wonderful person.
And funny story, I lived next to the San Juan Comalapa cemetery for two years. My black cat, Paxil, was the cemetery cat.
I have a very bad feeling about this...
