If this is the response to someone like Mamdani, just imagine what happens the day some House District in Michigan runs a UK-Desi style candidate that wears kurta, has a henna beard, and actually 'walks the talk'; its going to be a full blown national meltdown.

I haven't really checked Bluesky lately. All I know is that the Islamophobia vis-a-vis Mamdani's campaign is through the roof. Calls for denaturalization and accusations of a leftist, pro-LGBT secular Muslim wanting to make NYC into a Caliphate really a sight to behold.

The new Syrian government must crush the drug trade that Assad actively supported. You can't have parallel economies and narco-traffickers challenging what Weber would call the state's "monopoly on violence." Give the military something constructive to do. Nobody will oppose this.

My research focuses primarily on the intersection of Islam & politics. I've written books that aim to re-think Islamic governance (Palgrave) and the relationship between Islam & Liberalism (Routledge). I am currently working on a novel model of 'Islamicate public reason' (under contract w/ Oneworld)

So for those just stumbling upon my profile: I am a Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the International University of Sarajevo. I'm originally from the US (BA, Rutgers; MA, CUNY-GC; PhD, Purdue) and have been in Sarajevo 11 years.
