Charities' attempts to channel voices of the grassroots & those at the sharp end of policy decisions are easily dismissed as out-of-touch, unless a more representative group are - & are seen to be - the curators as well as the exhibits.

But charities could -& should- step up be that channel.

Despite talk of widening participation in higher education of people from lower-income backgrounds, maintenance loans typically don’t cover living costs & students are - by design - often excluded from hardship funds available to non-students πŸ‘‡

But the Green Party have one clear advantage over Your Party - while voters split on whether they see them as a serious party (38-39) that is far higher than for Your Party 16-50 and Your Party's splits have created a bigger opening for the Greens.

Golden ticket claim
Sir, Further to your report β€œStarmer promises to end asylum seekers’ golden ticket to UK” (Oct 2), to people who have been persecuted, tortured or seen family members killed in brutal wars or by despots, asylum is a lifeline. Talk of them having a golden ticket risks overlooking this fundamental reality and promoting the corrosive myth that the UK gets more refugees than other countries in Europe or the wider world. Ninety per cent of refugee family reunion visas go to women and children. Further restrictions on these visas would risk closing one of the few safe and legal routes to the UK for women and children who need protection. This would be good, if not golden, news for the people smugglers.

If we want to solve the housing crisis without trashing nature, consider that our current housing stock would fit, twice over, in the space currently taken up by golf courses, which are a sustainability nightmare.
