Do Not Remove NW Traffic Diverters: Protect Public S... I strongly oppose the removal of the traffic diverters at NW 20th and Everett, NW 14th and Johnson, and NW 15th and Johnson. This is not "for the benefit of all community members in NW", as the email from Portland Solutions director Skyler Brocker-Knapp to BikePortland suggested. It is a transfer of material safety from the poorest & most vulnerable portlanders (pedestrians, youth, those who can't afford a car) for the aesthetic benefit of the richest & most powerful. Our safety matters, so much so that community members fought for YEARS to establish these filters. I and many in my community use the filter at 20th & Everett EVERY DAY. It can't just be removed without a robust public outreach process and transparent communication. This undermines community trust and only teaches me to use underhanded, bad-faith tactics when the opportunity arises. People don't come to Portland for its many lanes and high speed streets, they come to it for vibrant urban landscapes with a healthy mode share! Please stop trying to turn our city into one big Chik Fil A Drive Thru. Respect what put Portland on the map and work to further that, not just undermine it.
