How a Planned Disney World Vacation Turned Into Four Months in Immigration Detention A 9-year-old shares her story of being held at the nation’s only operating detention center for immigrant families in Dilley, Texas.

So tragic. So immoral. So wrong.

Square graphic with a deep blue and burgundy, galaxy-like background filled with small white stars and soft, cloudlike textures.

At the top, in large gold script font, the text reads: β€œThe chalice is a symbol of our faith:”

Below, in gold serif font, the quote continues:
β€œLike our faith, it is not magic nor is it mysterious.
We light it
as a reminder of what we share
as a community
and of who, each of us, is called to be.”

The attribution β€œβ€“ Pat Uribe-Lichty, A Reminder of What We Share” appears in smaller gold italic text near the lower left.

On the lower right side is a bronze-colored chalice with a lit flame. The chalice is encircled by two thin bronze rings. Golden rays radiate upward from behind the flame, emphasizing the light. In the upper right background, a faint Unitarian Universalist flaming chalice logo appears in a muted red tone.

In the bottom left corner, a gold rectangle contains the text β€œhttp://UUA.ORG ” in black capital letters.

In β€œA Reminder of What We Share,” Pat Uribe-Lichty names the chalice as grounded and humanβ€”not magic, not mysterious. A symbol of community, courage, and practiced hope in chaotic times.

And on Saturday, March 7, we'll kick off the annual pledge drive at Eliot’s Annual Talent and Art Show! Will Rev. Dee tap dance again? No clue! But we WILL have a lot of fun and enjoy paintings, sculptures, photography and more at a potluck dessert reception afterwards.

Next Saturday, the Racial Justice Team plans a tour of MO History’s exhibit β€œMill Creek: Black Metropolis" then lunch at SweetArt, a delish Black-owned cafe. This follows last fall's viewing of the Mill Creek documentary & discussion with author Vivian Gibson about her memoir of a childhood there.

Our weekly newsletter is out this afternoon. It's kind of heavy as we announce an HVAC update, formation of a new conflict resolution team, & some sad tree removals on our property. But Saturday, we're taking part in the Kirkwood Love Walk & we're announcing other upcoming events.

Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientistβ€”because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...
