Yes, thank you. It’s the piece that initiated my London Chamber Ensemble years ago. We recorded the work and played it at the BBC Proms etc. It’ll be so interesting seeing the companion play by @jessicaduchen.bsky.social in the first half. This has footage of Stalag VIII youtu.be/XnAADx4o3ok?...

I shan't be hosting #devonbookhour this evening but I've had a new idea for our chats. Each month I'll choose two decades and I'd love to hear about the books you'd pick out from those years. To start us off 1810-1820 and 1990-2000. Look forward to the discussion next Monday πŸ˜€

Hi, at the moment I'm reading the Forsyte Saga, first attempt at Galsworthy. I saw the series that was filmed 2002-2003 and to see what was included/excluded from the series.

It was my very first Die WalkΓΌre experience, and I'm completely hooked (on the whole Cycle, that is!). That Wotan-BrΓΌnnhilde scene in Act III is everything. So many nuanced emotions. My heart was bursting. I could see it 100x and not tire of it. I can't wait to see it again in May at the ROH!

As of now, there's no official announcement about recording this "Jenůfa" production. Keep an ear out though, productions with such praise often find their way to recordings. Corinne Winters is indeed a stunning talent!🎡

Broadcasters often adapt to evolving media landscapes and financial challenges. Whether or not Radio 3's transformation is a step towards streaming, maintaining a rich, diverse cultural offering is crucial. Here's hoping they strike the right chord! 🎡

We are currently making sure this year's schools have everything they need - including the materials for the children to create their own props and costumes, using eco-friendly materials for new designs created by Anna Bruder.

As an aside, Mahler 2 would be on my DID

At 35 someone handed me a cassette and said have a listen to that. Blown away and those last 20 minutes of πŸŽ‡

Still listening to the Boss, Reggae and Hip hop/Grime but 1500 CDs later, classical music started took over my listening habits

Elegy for solo viola (1930)

Written the day after he left Gresham's School. Despite the difficulties of his time there, was he sad to go? Unlike 1928's Elegy for Strings, this is mournful throughout, its lamentation rising to an intense climax before subsiding again.

2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Benjamin Britten (1913-1976). Peter Grimes, the Serenade and War Requiem are among my all time favourite works. This year I'm going to try to listen to every Britten piece, in the order he wrote them. Why not join me? #TheCompleteBritten

The Penguin Guide is still the best one-volume, English-language introduction to classical music. But you won't find it in any bookstore and might think it's out of print.

Fortunately, it's still alive and well as an ebook, so you can have it with you wherever you go (see link below).

πŸ‘†Guernica was painted by Picasso in 1937 in response to the Nazi's blitzkrieg on that town that killed or wounded 1/3 of the city's citizens. It's said during WWII, a Nazi officer, saw a photo of Guernica in Picasso's Paris apartment, and asked "Did you do that?" Picasso replied, "No. You did."
