When they get to the Twin Cities, we'll have to have Prince night, the Replacements night, and Dylan night!

I keep saying, I have a newfound appreciation for how fascism birthed the surrealist movement.

Every fucking day, I feel like I'm losing my god damn mind.

Who Goes Nazi?, by Dorothy Thompson

Every few months now I re-read this "Who Goes Nazi?" piece from 1941 and am blown away by how it captures the people we are dealing with 80 years later.

Blue cities should tear up the roads in front of ICE facilities and then start decades of community engagement and input sessions to rebuild them. Let's harness our core competencies.

Trump is ordering the military to use β€œfull force” against an American city, while the Supreme Court declares him the Sun King and Congress hides under a pile of coats.

The checks and balances only work when the institutions aren’t run by utter cowards and the complicit

Some out-of-town travelers were quite baffled by how difficult it was get between terminals. I had to tell them it isn't usually super fast, but it is easier when the train is running.

I wasn't tracking, didn't check the app and just took my normal way of getting to the airport on transit (A line to Blue Line). I got to my flight on time and there was some "entertainment" on the bus so I guess it worked out.

REVISED RULES ON CRITICIZING THE US GOVERNMENT AT THIS UNIVERSITY – 2025-26

The Right to Criticize the US Government
Beginning in 2025-26, criticism of the United States government, its leaders, and their actions is prohibited (party in power only). This applies to all students, faculty, and staff at all times, including in private conversation, during internal monologues, or in dreams (including daydreams).

What If I am Unhappy with the US Government?
You are not.

History of Criticism of the US Government
The United States government has never been criticized. Although the Boston Tea Party has sometimes been falsely described as an act of political dissent, it was in fact merely a surprise birthday party for Samuel Adams, featuring cake and karaoke, both of which were invented that day. That’s all it was. Adams sang the wildly popular "Anacreontic Song" while Benjamin Franklin held up stone engravings with the lyrics.

What If I Want to Speak, Peacefully and with Moral Conviction, in Favor of Improving the Social, Economic, and Political Lives of Other Human Beings?

What Happens if I Criticize the US Government?
Such action would increase the chances that the president of the United States might withdraw funding from, or post angrily on social media about, Stony Brook University. That might sound like tyranny, but without a functional media, it is hard to say for sure. In any case, we all know that the best way to resist tyranny is to simply let it pass. The situation is similar to being caught in a thunderstorm. The right move is not to grab an umbrella or seek shelter, but instead to stand outside until you are completely soaked, holding the tallest tree or flagpole nearby for safety, for as long as necessary until the storm is satisfied with its destruction, at which point it will surely move on.

People missing an important point about folks getting fired for whatever they said about Charlie Kirk: Americans are being conditioned to be snitches on their fellow citizens who don’t toe a party line on what is β€œallowed” to be expressed. And employers are going along. It’s the new secret police

On my personal authority as the Chairman of the Johnson County Board of Supervisors, I have determined to defy the Governor’s order that our colors be at half staff through Sunday on behalf of Charlie J Kirk.
