I think this part of the Steam map looks like an angry dragon. That is all my tired brain can think about right now. Have a great weekend everyone.

Review scores are below avg for this segment, but the avg. estimated revenue is >$40k showing that players are hungry for these titles.

Golf games! ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ these games span everything from the absurd WHAT THE GOLF? to the immersive realism of the 2K PGA TOUR games. Interestingly, despite being a saturated market, games in this segment perform better than avg when it comes to sales. Have you made a golf game? Share it in the comments below

So yeah, Concept Compass will now take your concept, take the additional context of your competitors and what you like about those games, and draft together a GDD to get you started. Really helps combat the blank page syndrome
24.02.2026 19:01 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This is the best part about building a product we love & one we actually want to use ourselves, we build what we need & then release it to others in the hope it helps them too + we have no bureaucracy to contend with. We just build. Anyone that has worked corporate knows why this feels like heaven.
24.02.2026 19:01 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0We've started working on a concept for our first major attempt at a #indiegame. I started drafting it up in Concept Compass on Game Oracle but when I came to make a GDD I realised we hadn't thought that far ahead with the tool ๐ซ sooooo...we built it ๐

How does a weird niche game suddenly sell 100k copies? ๐ค
Itโs rarely luck. Itโs usually a specific innovation in mechanics or marketing.

I got tired of the "AI in games" shouting match, so I did the math. ๐งฎ
Using causal analysis on 10k+ games, I isolated the "AI effect" from marketing & skill.
The data shows that AI disclosure is currently a net negative for revenue

We break down the algorithm changes, the fee structures, and the curation shifts that defined the last 20 years of PC gaming.

Is AI on Steam just for shovelware and "slop"? We looked at the data.
Spoiler: No. ๐ซ
Our data shows AI disclosure is everywhere โ RPGs, Strategy, 2D, 3D. Itโs not hiding in one dark corner; itโs normalised across every genre.

Today I've been working on an way to view all the capsules and art from competitors easily within Concept Compass. Personally I wanted this for when doing R&D for my own #indiegame. Now I have a great reference point for getting started ๐จโ๐จ

We analysed 16,000 games released on Steam in 2025 to see how many are actually using AI.
The result? 21% of all new releases now disclose AI use. ๐
But here's the shocker: 60% use it for visual assets, yet almost NO ONE is using it for localisation. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjdG...

As a data scientist I love AI and ML, I think it should be a force for good. It should free us from grunt work & admin so we can focus on innovation & creativity. But atm it is being wielded about like a toddler with a hammer. Beware the Golem of Prague ๐ค
13.01.2026 16:53 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Thank you for reposting. I would like to just moderate that, as we emphasise in the article, the important observation is that it's A TOOL. I think there are a lot of factors at play that are drivers behind this statistic, including a culture shift brought on by AI - a pressure to drive down cost
13.01.2026 16:53 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Thank you @f0lak.bsky.social it is a fair critique, on reflection maybe I worded that poorly. We've made a strong assumption here that people are being honest with disclosure and I'll put my hands up and admit it is one of the biggest flaws in the study, but it was vital to the investigation

We built a causal model to measure the cost of using AI in game dev.
The results are brutal: For experienced developers, disclosing AI use is associated with a ~53% drop in reviews. ๐
If you have the skills to make a hit, the "AI Stigma" might be costing you half your sales.
