I actually recommend increasing the speed in .25 increments if someone has trouble focusing on regular speed audiobooks. Works for some and for some, audio isn't their thing

Not the poster, but most audiobooks in the US are recorded at much slower speeds than people actually talk. In real life, of course you take the time to listen to someone who speaks slowly, but not a book. Podcasts at double usually too. But all our brains are different

Have you tried ebooks from the library? You can have them sent to your Kindle or buy a kobo that has Libby access. Helps to get a card from the biggest nearby city or county. Some smaller libraries form consortiums for a better choice

If you have it in you, you can foster these kids. There are agencies in every state working to get these kids into homes. Think exchange students (some majorly traumatized) not building a family. But there's a huge need.
