You are trapped and under attack in Dubai - while back home in Chichester your daughters are furious, the labradoodles are sick and, worst of all, you left your Mounjaro pen…in the fridge???

My favourite is "Remember this?" and then seven identical blurry and extremely zoomed in photos of the sole of my foot from when I was trying to find a splinter

Honestly the collective national level of disdain for Brits living in Dubai on all my social media platforms today really is bringing the UK together as one in a way that's hard to achieve in the modern era.

That's kind of surprising, because my experience in Frankfurt is Iranians lean left or liberal (and particularly Green - Frankfurt's Deputy Mayor and one of its MPs are both Iran-born Greens, as are quite a few people in this Wikipedia category en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categor... )

Tolkien said "cellar door" was the most beautiful phrase in the English language, but that's because he never heard "she's attractive and is the size of an average human mother"

One day in the distant future, historians of literature will search for the work of art that most beautifully embodies our era in glistening prose – to our age what The Great Gatsby is the Jazz Age – and they will realise it's Top 10 Hottest Sonic Female Characters.

Try this question on for size: who chases and hugs Sonic all the time and wields a powerful hammer?

Maybe. I don't know how many people out there still have their mental model of politics as "Labour and the Tories, plus some weird cranks called 'Lib Dems' and whatever Farage renamed UKIP to"

I think there's a big chunk of the population who, when polled mid-term, just say "I'm unhappy, I'm voting for the opposition", and then when the election comes, either return to the gov or look more seriously into tactical voting. Miliband shed 5-10 points, Badenoch still has scope to do the same

I also wonder if she sincerely believes Boko Haram, the Iranian Guardian Council, and the average British Iranian have anything in common, opinions-wise. She talks like "Muslims" are one big hive mind

Everything about Badenoch can be understood through the fact she sees the world through the lens of her β€œethnic enemies”: a totalising worldview that will always, always, make the people who hold it say and do stupid things.

YouTube video by CDCB2 Marge Gets a Job: Tourette's Scene (FROM ORIGINAL FOX AIRING)

Do they think Davidson was a famous celebrity who just coincidentally also claimed to have Tourettes?

(At least the Simpsons no longer holds the title for the worst Tourettes joke on American TV - and they had the good grace to delete it on later repeats) youtu.be/TvRTfpf9Yus

Not to mention the fact that a lot of people were forced to leave Iran precisely because they rejected the Islamic Revolution! (I often think how weirdly distorted my opinion of Iran is by the fact every Iranian I know is a feminist and either a liberal Muslim or an atheist)

Imagine thinking British Muslims, or even just British Iranians*, have a single unified opinion on Iran.

* many of whom in my experience are not practicing Muslims.

Kemi Badenoch has accused Keir Starmer of not supporting the initial strikes in Iran for fear of upsetting Muslim voters β€œwhose political loyalties are swayed by conflicts in the Middle East, not the British national interest.”

That’s quite the claim, and pretty inflammatory.

Might Freedom of Speech guy himself be a geeky* otter with good taste, long fingers and a nice voice?

* Well, maybe not geeky, seeing as he was standing up to protest a tax raise to rebuild the burned-down schoolhouse. But he was ahead of the time fashion-wise

oof. Yikes 😬thanks for letting me know. Im softblocking him right now. Sorry I saw a sci-fi Canterbury Tales riff he made a while back and followed. didnt know he wrote a novel about the inherent bloodthirsty savagery of Indians

There's a lot of mean-spiritedness about people who have gone to live in Dubai. We need to help, and ensure they have secure accommodation in the UK for 91 days of the next tax year.

So currently Bluesky believes Keir Starmer is going to cause World War III as a puppet of Donald Trump, Twitter believes he’s a beta cuck who should have launched missiles ahead of the Americans, and Facebook believes that video of the puppy playing with the tiger is real and not AI.

I saw one large American pick-up (nearly the length of two normal cars!) a few weeks ago, and trouble it had navigating a junction even on a fairly major suburban road makes me think there's going to be a fairly obvious limiting factor on US trucks in Europe.

Do not take this post at face value: it's simply a rewrite of a press release for the dealer. The vehicles are already road legal and are already "dealt with" by gov, in that they're taxed up to the eyeballs. We're talking about this dealer selling an extra six of them, not some flood of new cars.

The US additionally had Watergate and Vietnam to worry about, which I think were even worse for public mood than everything going on in the UK. American books and films from the 70s feel angry to the point of inchoateness
