The Trump administration must obey the law.

Federal judges have been clear: release the contingency funds NOW.

Do not allow 42 million Americans to go hungry while billionaires get tax breaks.

Popok: The blue states and cities effectively brought the cases. The red states are suffering, and their AGs are sitting on the sidelines. There’s no red state that brought a case. Think about that: not one red state attorney general brought a case to help prevent starvation and suffering. None.

Here’s what’s at stake in the shutdown:

If Republicans get their way, 50,000 Americans will die unnecessarily every year.

15 million will lose their health care.

20 million will see their premiums double.

All so they can give a trillion dollar tax break to the 1%.

If President Trump wants to improve things, he should work with local leaders in a spirit of cooperation and coordination — not against them.

I encourage all residents to keep any protests peaceful, and not provide the provocation the president seeks to further militarize our communities.

Fifteen million are about to lose health care. Premiums are set to double. Housing & child care are outrageously expensive.

Meanwhile, Trump’s priorities are demolishing the White House, bailing out Argentina & now threatening war with Venezuela.

What happened to America First?

Trump gave corporate America a $920 billion tax break.

Now, corporations like Amazon, Meta, Apple, Google & Lockheed Martin are returning the favor by giving Trump $300 million for a fancy ballroom.

That’s a pretty good return on investment.

By refusing to work with Democrats, Republicans are willing to DOUBLE the health care costs for millions of people.

It’s shameful.

During the shutdown, Trump could find $40 billion to bail out Argentina & $300 million for a ballroom to host dinner parties with billionaires, but he won’t tap emergency funds to prevent millions of American kids from going hungry?

How cruel is that?

Donald Trump is abusing the pardon power as a means of rewarding his family, his allies & his wealthy donors.

Now, they are illegally withholding emergency SNAP funding that keeps millions of children from going hungry.

All so they can give $1 trillion in tax breaks to the 1%.

More than five million Californians, including children and seniors, rely on food assistance. 

Trump’s refusal to provide SNAP benefits will force millions to go hungry.  

There’s no policy behind this. Just cruelty.

Now Trump must obey the law & release $5 billion in emergency SNAP funding appropriated by Congress.

The richest country on Earth shouldn't be facing a hunger crisis.

15 Republican senators have now joined all 47 members of the Democratic caucus on legislation to extend SNAP benefits during the shutdown.

In all, 62 senators are on this bill.
