Last doggy update: Eric/Whiskey's page went down yesterday after being updated to show he was with a foster for a few days before that. I can only hope that means good things and he has found a family to love and care for him. I hope he's being showered with love and affection every day now!

And for context, yeah that happened this morning as the cops raided our neighbors, supposedly for no reason per those same neighbors. I have no idea what the cops are claiming, we weren’t about to ask.

Time for a nap.

Could have done without the 20 minutes of shouting over the intercom but it does make for some background noise while you do your morning routine.

If you ever struggle with getting up in the morning just call the police and have them let off a fucking flash grenade outside your window at 4am. You’ll be up real quick and even have time to change your pants!

It’s hard not to imagine all the different ways Whiskey’s life could have gone, especially without knowing where he started. I’m still waiting to see if he gets adopted out and contacting rescues in the meantime.

No shelter is perfect or has all the resources either. But it’s a chance, at least.

But then assholes on ND frame every surrender as someone heartlessly abandoning their precious angel and turn people off from using that resource. It’s so harmful but I’m not about to fight strangers on the internet over it.

And they wouldn’t have been shamed for it! Shelters are here to give us an option of a place to take our beloved animals when we can no longer give them the care they need. Life circumstances change, we’re all one health crisis from poverty. Our pets don’t need to suffer.

I don’t know what Whiskey’s story is, but at the very best he was very loved but physically left to suffer, and it’s entirely possible it’s bc his owners simply couldn’t afford to care for him properly. Perhaps out of shame they decided to dump him instead of risk being ridiculed at the shelter.

I’ve been more active in Nextdoor due to the Whiskey business (heh) and there’s one user that keeps posting surrendered pets that are up for adoptions and shaming their previous owners and it’s driving me nuts.

He went up for adoption today so hopefully he’ll have a name and new pic soon.

Turned in what I think will be my last pass at my freelance assignment today. I’m expecting a few small notes hut hoping after today it’ll be all set! Then I just wanna chill til next year.

Whiskey is now under the care of the Pasadena Humane Society! There‘a a 5 day hold while they give time for his owners to claim him. After that he’ll be available for adoption, and if that happens I’ll share that info here!

We just handed over care of him to our local humane society, but I appreciate the thought 🧡 I hope they’re able to find him a better home than wherever he came from.

It’s possible it’s a health condition. The vet suspects he may have diabetes due to cataracts, which can make dogs incontinent, but I couldn’t afford the bloodwork so I won’t know. I hope it’s something the humane society does.

Woke up crying from a dream where i took Whiskey to the humane society and they just assumed I wanted to put him down because he’s so hopeless.

Then in real life went to take him outside to find that he is definitely not crate trained, which slims his odds even more.

today’s gonna suck.

It's so hard to know what to do or how to feel when a dog has clearly been neglected but is still someone else's property. Maybe I could have gone about this differently, idk. With the holiday week I couldn't get him to a shelter before Friday anyway and making him comfortable took priority.

I hope he had love at some point, and I hope whatever comes next is kinder to him.

So I don't know. Maybe this guy was incredibly loved and his people fell on hard times and haven't been able to get proper care for him. I'd hope we'd all be strong enough to surrender our pets in such a situation, but it's not like it's easy either.

I've been the owner judged harshly when I had a cocker spaniel whose fur was overgrown, but that was because she had a huge growth in her stomach that could burst if handled improperly and couldn't be groomed, so like... I do get that you don't know the circumstances of a dog's current state.

But anyway, if I can't find a home for Whiskey today I'll take him to the Humane Society tomorrow and let local rescues know he's there in case they can arrange care for him.

This dog has the survival instincts of a tadpole and I don't think was on the streets for long, but just the state of his fur and nails was enough to show that he just was not being cared for. No dog grows 2 inch long nails over a couple days in the wild.

A lot of articles about what to do when finding a lost pet say not to judge the previous owners based on what you see in the pet now, but god is it not hard to do in this case.

I’ll be contacting senior and poodle focused rescues to start, but if I can’t arrange something soon I’ll need take him to a standard rescue. Sharing is appreciated

He needs extensive dental work,
may have diabetes, and is arthritic and seemingly not entirely house broken. He needs love and patience. I wish I could care for him forever but we have pets of our own and just don’t have the means.

This is Whiskey. He’s a mostly senior maltipoo that I am desperately searching for a good home for after finding him on the streets. If you’re in the LA area and have the heart to care for an old man, this fella needs you!
