I read a section from Yellowface in class. One of my students said the protagonist sounded like a teenager, and was surprised to learn the character was in their 20s.

So I'm now wondering, what do you look for when estimating a character's age (if it isn't explicitly mentioned)?

Yes, but mainly for illness or education.

I've always wanted to apply to a writer-in-residence position in another city, but my (very stable) day job prevents me. It remains a dream, but hopefully one day!

I wake up alive every day. I cannot collapse and wait to be consumed. The struggle is learning what to prioritize. The serenity prayer on repeat.

As I enter my thirties, I've found myself with a different kind of anxiety. Eveything is so expensive, and there's so many things I want to save for.

That annoying question, "Where do you see yourself in 10 years?" is starting to feel more and more pressing.

There was a deposit in my bank account that I couldn't place. Then I remembered I registered for the Public Lending Right program!

Thank you to everyone who requested "Myth" at their library, to the libraries who added it to their catalogs, and to those who borrowed it.

Thank you, thank you! πŸ₯Ήβ€οΈ

3 books by Black authors that imagine a better world | CBC Books Terese Mason Pierre, the editor of As The Earth Dreams, a collection of Black speculative fiction, speaks with Antonio Michael Downing on The Next Chapter about what the genre means to her.

Giving some love to our friends to the North here!

@teresempierre.bsky.social praises speculative fiction's "ability and capacity to think of a different world or imagine a different world and not just accepting things the way they are."

YES!

& can I move to Canada?
