The Times has always been terrible when it comes to technology, medical, and science reporting, but this is just brutal. I don't know how they don't realize it costs them subscribers.

Like, I bet a LOT of people who still have tvs, who would have voted Landers with Cuomo second, saw this and at least added Memdani to their ticket if not ahead of Cuomo between the direct response and the Lander endorsement

This reads to me as him bringing up these issues that he knows people where hammering him on unfairly, in as softball a way as possible on the eve of the primary to give him a chance to directly cou ter those criticisms. And to a crowd who otherwise wouldnt have heard the words out of his own mouth.

honestly the best marketing scheme in history is men successfully getting away with calling women the "more emotional" gender for like, EONS, because they've successfully rebranded anger as Not An Emotion

As an employee of NYC I am not allowed to accept a vendor buying us lunch to eat while they show us a presentation about their products. I'm not allowed to accept a tip from a member of the public. I'm not allowed to accept Yankees tickets that are given away via drawing to anyone attending an event

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

The genAI thing gives a great deal of insight into how non-creatives and profiteers would treat and value creatives if they could. How far that exploitation would go if they could somehow keep the golden eggs coming without us.

It’s not new info, per se, but it is an interesting quantification.

It's really starting to feel like Trump and Musk had a movie date last summer where they watched Idiocracy and took that future as an aspirational ideal.

Mark is beloved by millions of kids, which makes it particularly great that he’s teaching them how to inform their parents that Tesla is a danger to children. This is another one of those β€œwe don’t need a β€˜Rogan of the left’, we need normal men” examples.

Yo @durbin.senate.gov, no one is picking up your Senate phone and you don’t even have a voicemail. Vote no on cloture and the spending bill or I will do whatever it takes to make sure the next Senator from Illinois has basic constituent services set up during business hours.

Toon our kids to TMBG in Brooklyn in December and completely melted their brains, and the only thing they knew before listening to some on the drive down was watching those to Tiny Toon clips.

Government efficiency is when every federal agency has to send a daily emergency email to its workers telling them to ignore another daily email from a different department trying to fire them without knowing what their jobs are.

DOGE lists 1,125 canceled contracts, claiming $7.2 billion in savingsβ€”but many were already completed, meaning no money was actually saved. In fact, 417 contracts saved $0, and another 51 added up to less than $1 million.

Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.

Excerpt from a public letter Roald Dahl wrote encouraging people to vaccinate their children.

Olivia, my eldest daughter, caught measles when she was seven years old. As the illness took its usual course I can remember reading to her often in bed and not feeling particularly alarmed about it. Then one morning, when she was well on the road to recovery, I was sitting on her bed showing her how to fashion little animals out of coloured pipe-cleaners, and when it came to her turn to make one herself, I noticed that her fingers and her mind were not working together and she couldn’t do anything.

β€œAre you feeling all right?” I asked her.

β€œI feel all sleepy,” she said.

In an hour, she was unconscious. In twelve hours she was dead.

The measles had turned into a terrible thing called measles encephalitis and there was nothing the doctors could do to save her. That was twenty-four years ago in 1962, but even now, if a child with measles happens to develop the same deadly reaction from measles as Olivia did, there would still be nothing the doctors could do to help her.

On the other hand, there is today something that parents can do to make sure that this sort of tragedy does not happen to a child of theirs. They can insist that their child is immunized against measles. I was unable to do that for Olivia in 1962 because in those days a reliable measles vaccine had not been discovered. Today a good and safe vaccine is available to every family and all you have to do is to ask your doctor to administer it.

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

I still remember way back before Musk was illegally destroying US foreign aid that time when he claimed he’d give $6B to the UK WFP if they could tell him how it would solve world hunger & then he ignored the response & gave $5.7B to his own charity & no one ever found out where it went from there
