Tell Cascade PBS to Take Care of their Workers! Please support the union members at Cascade PBS by sending a letter to Cascade PBS Executives demanding they offer more severance to those workers impact by the unnecessary layoffs. -- On Monday, S...

Instead, CPBS is happy to save $ and wash its hands of the newsroom without cutting a dime of executive salaries. We’ve heard from lots of community members outraged that their donations are going to a $500K CEO paycheck. If you are too, please let the bosses know: actionnetwork.org/letters/tell...

@cascadepbs.bsky.social’s operating revenue is up 17% from last year, and they expect the public to believe they can’t afford a reasonable one-time severance package??

And finally, we think a company that has recently benefitted from a huge influx of new donations AND has long professed to care about local news can do more to ensure its workers can weather unemployment long enough to find new reporting/editing jobs and continue doing this critical work elsewhere.

It’s true they don’t HAVE to provide anything beyond what we bargained for in our last contract. But A) no one expected half the union to get laid off 5 months after ratifying a new contract, and B) 5 weeks of severance won’t go far in expensive Seattle, especially given our relatively low wages.

We’ve been bargaining with @cascadepbs.bsky.social since they announced layoffs last week, fighting for more severance for our members as they head into a brutal journalism job market. So far the company has refused to offer more than a week of severance beyond their contractual requirement.

Yesterday was a dark day for local news. But we can weather dark times when we fight together. And we’re going to fight like hell over the next few weeks to get these journalists what they deserve from @cascadepbs.bsky.social

Nine Guild-represented journalists and their editors have also lost their livelihoods as a consequence of this decision. We are crowdfunding to support our affected colleagues, and you can help by donating to our layoff fund. tinyurl.com/LayoffFund

Our News and Investigations teams report deeply on crucial issues — immigration, labor, the impact of federal & state budget cuts, local politics — and with the elimination of these teams, many of these stories will go untold. Many voices in our community will be silenced.

It’s difficult to find the words to express how our unit is feeling right now, but we’ll take a stab at it: shocked, disappointed, angry, gutted. @cascadepbs.bsky.social’s choice to eliminate long-form written reporting is a massive loss for our community in a critical moment. tinyurl.com/LayoffFund

This contract, which was the product of a tough, drawn out fight, wouldn’t have been possible without the tireless support of our community. To everyone who has shown up for us these past 9 months, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. When we fight together, we win.

Our lowest-paid members were making less than $64K, and at ratification no one in the unit will be making less than $70K. We also secured additional PTO, doubled severance and stronger worker protections that will make a tangible difference in our members’ lives.

We did it!!! Yesterday the unit voted unanimously to ratify a new contract that will immediately secure hardworking journalists at @cascadepbs.bsky.social an average raise of 6.76% and an average 18.3% wage increase over the course of the four-year contract.

Big news: After nine months of fighting for a #faircontract we’re happy to report that we reached a tentative agreement at the bargaining table with @cascadepbsnewsroom.bsky.social today!! Now we will bring the proposed contract to the unit for a ratification vote.

If the company can afford $2M in executive compensation and 9.5% raises for the CEO, they can afford to give us more than 2.25% annual raises (their most recent offer). We’re ready for a #FairContractNow. Are you, @cascadepbs.bsky.social?

25.04.2025 19:26 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

The @cascadepbs.bsky.social CEO got a 9.5% raise in 2024, including a $103.8K bonus. Our unit members haven’t had raises since October 2023, when we got a 1.5% bump.

We were back on the info picket line yesterday following a productive bargaining session with @cascadepbs.bsky.social. They finally heard us and are moving on wages — but not enough, considering they spent $2M on executive compensation in 2024.

We were clear about our demands: #FairContractNow. And @mlklabor.bsky.social was clear that they have our backs if and when we strike. Now it’s up to @cascadepbs.bsky.social to decide if that’s necessary.

After the picket, a delegation from the unit went inside with the head of @mlklabor.bsky.social to invite our CEO, Rob Dunlop, to join us at the bargaining table tomorrow and explain to our faces why he deserves a $74K bonus while @cascadepbs.bsky.social journalists are struggling to make rent.

It’s so deeply insulting that @cascadepbs.bsky.social is no doubt about to brag about these journalists’ accomplishments while offering them pennies at the bargaining table. Pay these people what they are worth.
