Opinion Today: It’s OK if your medical advice comes from A.I.

The only hope for our field is triadic care, where AI is deployed in such a way that maintains -- or even enhances -- human relationships. Otherwise, "AI doctor" startups will continue to chip away and further fragment our already struggling primary care.

I have tons of lectures that I've made for #medstudents and #residents, but I wanted to gamify them to make them more engaging.

So I built a free gamification feature on beta.mededassessments.com. Upload a lecture, and it generates a team comp, jeopardy, or live quiz game

The problems in scientific publishing run deep. They won’t be fixed by courts or regulators.

If the system is going to change, it will be because scientists choose fairer journals, nonprofit models, and better alternatives.

A federal judge dismissed the case, not because the system is fair, but because current antitrust law isn’t built to regulate academic norms, trade-association ethics rules, or structural power in publishing.

How to fix scientific publishing:
1. Build GitHub for manuscript writing
2. Set up preprints and publishing as pull requests

⭐️Versioning/contributor tracking mitigate fraud
⭐️Pull requests mitigate administrative costs
⭐️Everything is open
⭐️The freemium model improves access

Case Report Journal Finder Quickly surface reputable, cost-conscious journals for your clinical case report based on specialty, APC preferences, and indexing.

I often get asked by residents and medical students where they can publish their case reports. So I built a tool where you can query over 1000 medical journals that publish CRs by cost, MEDLINE status, time to publication, specialty, etc.

The top six commercial publishers are currently being sued for anti-trust violations (Uddin v. Elsevier, B.V., 1:24-cv-06409). They publish the majority of articles on PubMed. This year, we will find out the verdict.

If they lose, this would have DRAMATIC effects on #research

Working on a feature that I think every journal should have:

πŸ‘‰You drag and drop your manuscript
πŸ‘‰It fills in the sections
πŸ‘‰It formats all your references

How much time do researchers waste formatting manuscripts?

An estimated $230 MILLION in work hours yearly
