Fear

Ever since she’s met her brother. Her ways of leaning on others is mutual and no longer one sided.

It wasn’t a lie and it was way too clear her actions towards him have proven that. Unlike with Joker, it was clear she wasn’t honest, but due to fearing she’d have no protection against her husband she did it to survive.

There were moments, she’d talk to him. Even when he had his own personal fallouts. She did listen to him and spoke honest truths. Even being a willing shoulder he’d lean on, when asked to be his sister she agreed. Yes she’s a terrible liar but due their interactions.

The question spun in her head. But it clicked. Even if she possessed falsehoods in some of her words.

Her uncle had always crafted her gifts for her birthday. Or her aunt would make a meal. These were simple things, Margaretha’s uncle showed her the craft of music boxes. So much so, she’d find comfort in them that one can make her fall asleep.

It was no secret to her friend Violetta. She’d smoke to clear her head, would at some point take training to protect herself. It wasn’t the most ideal thing. With her job as a theater troupe, she’d not risk wanting to meet anyone like her husband ever again.

After the circus burnt, it was the opportunity to finally get rid of the identity “Natalie” she’d feel no longer chained to the burdens of her previous life. Only attachment she might have in close proximity was Violetta, they’d end up being roommates.

He’d mention a lavish home, growing up poor had made her dream of things she’d never been able to get without marriage. This situation didn’t require a husband, and the man in question Richard. Would end up being less of a situation built on lies, she did end up obtaining a brother in the end.

When the manor was introduced into her life, she’d once again lean on someone. Their relationship wasn’t built on the same lies, this time the man protecting her, was in need for a “sister” she’d gladly take that role, if it’d improve her chances of survival.
