The more I listen to Getting Killed, the more I think that Husbands is the one song that should have been left on the cutting floor

It's not a perfect comparison because I don't know if Martone will ever be as powerful of a downhill skater, but honestly, it might be Rantanen.

I think, if anything, Flyers fans may be underrating just how good Porter Martone has the potential to be.

Tocchet says he's looking to give the Andrae-Drysdale pairing some runway and leave them together for a bit. He said he's not going to break them up if they have a couple shifts hemmed in their own zone to start the next game.

Tocchet characterizes Owen Tippett and Tyson Foerster's absences from practice today as "maintenance." Says he expects them both to play tomorrow.

The Flyers pulled off yet another comeback last night, winning 3-2 in OT on the strength of a Travis Sanheim end-to-end rush.

But the bigger story was the emergence of Emil Andrae in a 2nd pair role, and Rodrigo Abols making perhaps a job-saving case:

Travis Konecny came thiiiis close to avoiding OT. Was staring at a wide-open net after Hofer misjudged the puck trying to play it. But Konecny just flat out missed.

An Emil Andrae goal to seal it for the Flyers late in regulation would have made this the easiest post-game story to write, in how it would have been the capstone for him on an already-strong game. Alas.

Well, now the Blues have a "how did that not go in" shot that was stopped, too. Not sure if Vladar made that save or if it was blocked, but he looked dead in the water on his back yet the puck somehow stayed out.

And the Flyers tie it up! Tyson Foerster blasts a one-timer past Hofer from the left faceoff circle, and it's back to even. 2-2 with 8:11 left.

OK, I have no idea how Trevor Zegras did not score there.

Now I do. Hofer got a piece of the shot, and then it bounced off the post and stayed out. Man. That looked like a sure goal.

After a pretty juice-less first 7 minutes of the 3rd, the Flyers draw a penalty and will get an opportunity to tie things up on a PP. Good job by Zegras to keep his legs moving and make sure that one got called.

I think the biggest problem for the Flyers tonight is they're just not winning enough physical battles.

They've skated well & made some plays. But they've lost a bunch of key 1-on-1 battles, including on both goals against. Surprising after the battle-heavy practices this week.

After that Andrae penalty, the Flyers simply had to hit the locker room without giving up a goal. They succeed, and it's still 2-1 after 40 minutes. They're right back in it, but man, that would have been demoralizing if they gave the Abols goal right back.

Told ya Abols was looking effective tonight. Nice pass from Tippett below the goal line through a check, and Abols buries it far corner. 2-1 now.

This Andrae-Drysdale pairing appears to be a thing; they've been running it for a while in the second period.

Got exposed a bit in the d-zone once, but it certainly gives them more pop in the other two zones.

Blues starting to turn the momentum back in their direction. Which wouldn't be great at any time... but especially when you're already down 2-0.

Oof, Toropchenko just burned Juulsen on that rush, luckily for the Flyers it looked like he put the eventual shot wide. But he blasted right by him.

I will say, the fourth line -- specifically Rodrigo Abols -- has had some quality chances tonight. Hofer just made a nice sprawling glove save on Abols, and it wasn't the first tough stop he's had to make on him.

More pressure from the Flyers to start this period, but still No Goals (Juuse Saros voice). Lots of zone time though, and a few near misses.

I mean, he wouldn't be on my Flyers roster.

2-0 St. Louis after 20 minutes. Flyers have a steep hill to climb, though they weren't lacking for shots (12) and chances in the first. STL isn't exactly a stingy team defensively this season, so if they can get the next goal, it's still a very winnable game.
