As a patient and health care professional , this is definitely my favourite explanation of FND I’ve encountered so far.

Primary Care Clinical Pharmacist-frailty polypharmacy. FND sufferer. Christian Rejoined social media from a 10 year silence anonymously (easy to find) to find evidence based answer on FND to combat the primary care “eye role” towards all things functional.

@HarvardMedicine have done a great job with this article on FND, focused on the contribution of colleagues working there, including Barbara Dworetzky, David Perez and alumnus Mark Hallett.

Functional Neurological Disorder does not mean:
* you’re faking
* you’re responsible for becoming ill
* you could stop it if you wanted
* it’s “just anxiety”
* that you don’t really have a disability
* that there’s no hope
It might be a good idea as a Neurologist not to tell your patient that all your complaints come from FND patients. Maybe reflect instead.
Yes this is a true story! ( and shockingly in a Scottish hospital)
Latest attempt to try and define predictive brain mechanism in #FND in the simplest terms -
A disconnect in the brain where -
Beliefs/expectations + prior experiences
Outweigh
Incoming sensory input from present reality
Does that seem accurate? Any thoughts appreciated 🙏
New NHS England Neurology Service specification.
✅FND is one of seven core subspecialties
✅FND services MUST be provided in each specialised neurology centre.
This is huge recognition of how common FND is in neurology - and unthinkable 20 yrs ago. 1/

Time to get the facts straight. 🙌
Thanks @jonstoneneuro.bsky.social, Caoimhe McLaughlin and Anna Ross, and the ETUDE team for bringing this to life.
Why do people develop #FND? It’s complex and there isn't just one factor.
🔑 Underlying genetics, chronic illness, trauma
⚡ Triggering stress, illness, injury
🔄 Maintaining anxiety, stigma, lack of support
FND = biopsychosocial illness. Real symptoms. Real support is needed.

✨ It’s UK FND Awareness Day! ✨
I’ve made a video exploring psychological therapies, apps, books, and other tools that can help people with Functional Neurological Disorder. I hope they are helpful!

Quote "when medicine canf explain you, it just abandons you." This is fnd awareness day. Let's listen. Let's believe. Let's do better.
I’m a neuropsychologist who works with people living with FND.
I was told recently that no one in the UK with #FND falls through the cracks anymore.
But the stories I hear tell a different truth.
This #FNDAwarenessDay, I’m not just raising awareness.
I’m amplifying voices.

Functional neurological disorder (FND) is the second most common neurological condition.
This #FND Awareness Day, @nielsdetert.bsky.social explains what FND is and how treatment can vary.

Like a thief in the night FND can come and change everything.
Please tell the world. Like FND recovery , small steps make a big difference.

It’s FND awareness day.
It’s the most common reason for a neurology referral second to headache.
Why has no one heard of it?
Two years ago I could drive, walk easily, talk easily, think and communicate efficiently, see and hear clearly and sleep soundly.
It’s FND awareness day, please take a minute to learn about this challenging condition. 🙏

Well I know why, because the land mine would go off and blow me, up wouldn’t it!!
Not to mention the night time jerks (myoclonic jerks is my self diagnosis). I would def get a great part in Grays anatomy/ Casualty as a dead patient getting shocked, just need hubby to shout CLEAR we’d be sorted🤣
I’m actually relieved to hear that (sorry😬)
It’s the violence of some the symptoms that takes me by surprise and no-one mentions.
Some days my feet stick to the ground while my body swings violently like a Hawaiian palm tree in a cat 5 tornado. How is that even possible? Why don’t I fall over!
