RELEASE DATE 25 MARCH/ Director Zack Snyder / Starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot / Genre Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi B en Affleck is something of an enigma. From building a career in rom-com roles and as Hollywood's go-to guy for shallow action movies, he has since crafted quite the diverse filmography. Besides directing Gone Baby Gone, The Town, and Oscar-winner Argo, Affleck has also excelled in various roles, including the beleaguered husband in Gone Girl. Henry Cavill, on the other hand, had a pretty safe job on TV, never really straying from the confines of safe shows such as Midsomer Murders and The Tudors. Yet when Hollywood came knocking with the role of Superman, Cavill accepted, and rightly his career has taken off. Batman v Superman sees the two leading men battle in one of comic book history's most impressive match-ups, as seen in multiple DC comics. It's no surprise that DC have chosen to create an extended universe around the film, with Gal Gadot joining the fight as Wonder Woman prior to the Justice League films. Success for Marvel with their Avenger's universe has seen many franchises try similar ideas, including the upcoming Godzilla universe. Comic book veteran Zach Snyder directs fresh from 2013's Man of Steel. Expect multiple references to 2016's other DC extended universe showpiece Suicide Squad, which will star Jared Leto as The Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Will Smith as Deadshot.
RELEASE DATE 22 JULY / Director Steven Spielberg / Starring Mark Rylance, Ruby Barnhill, Bill Hader / Genre Adventure, Family, Fantasy n recent years Steven Spielberg has strayed from fantasy films, expanding his repertoire to real-world events (Bridge of Spies, Lincoln). This summer he's back to his roots with The BFG, and it promises to be a fizzwiggling, bellypopping, snortling good time. Based on Roald Dahl's book, The BFG is a Big Friendly Giant who distributes good dreams to children. Unlike other giants, he refuses to eat people, and stands at a 'runty' 24 feet tall - some 88.5 feet shorter than Ghostbuster's Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, and over 300 foot shorter than Godzilla. However, BFG makes friends with orphan Sophie, and together they battle bad giants and catch good dreams. The BFG is played by 2016 Oscar nominee Mark Rylance while Sophie is played by Ruby Barnhill, who learned six pages of dialogue from heart for her initial audition. The film also boasts an impressive cast including Bill Hader, Rafe Spall, and Jemaine Clement. In another nod to his early career, Spielberg hired E.T. scribe Melissa Mathison to write the screenplay, though sadly she passed away before its release. John Williams scored the film, ensuring that the whole event will definitely not be a snozzcumber.
RELEASE DATE 1 JANUARY / Director Tom Hooper / Starring Eddie Redmayne, Amber Heard, Ben Whishaw / Genre Biography, Drama ddie Redmayne caused a shock E last year with his Academy Award- winning portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, taking home the famous statue when many believed it would go to Michael Keaton for his role in Birdman. This year could make Redmayne the first actor since Tom Hanks in 1993/1994 to bag successive Best Actor wins, as The Danish Girl is certain to pick up its fill of nominations. It tells the true story of Einar Wegener, who, after sitting in for a female model at the request of his artist wife Gerda, decides to pursue gender reassignment surgery to become Lili Elbe. Handled delicately by The King's Speech and Les MisΓ©rables director Tom Hooper, The Danish Girl showcases the troubles and tribulations of Lili's decision to become the first ever male- to-female surgery recipient. Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Man From U.N.C.L.E) plays Gerda Wegener, and Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone, The Drop) plays Hans Axgil, a childhood friend who forms part of a love triangle with the couple. The film's soundtrack is scored by Alexandre Desplat, composer of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The King's Speech, and 2014's Godzilla.

Jack Reacher is also a mystery man, taking on random jobs and travelling across America to find the truth. In this sequel to the 2012 hit film, Jack Reacher is in trouble. Based on Lee Child's celebrated series now on its twentieth novel - Jack Reacher: Never Go Back promises the return of Reacher punching, shooting, and tackling his foes in another round of action- charged suspense. In the books, Jack Reacher stands at 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, but the film franchise refutes the tagline of 1998's Godzilla 'size does - matter' as 5-foot-6 superstar Tom Cruise reprises the role. How I Met Your Mother and Avengers star Cobie Smulders joins the action as the head of Reacher's former military unit. Reacher returns to Virginia where he was once stationed only to find himself falsely accused of a 16-year- old homicide, drawing him into a cross-country chase with high-end stunts and a conspiracy larger than he could've imagined. The Last Samurai director Edward Zwick reunites with Cruise to helm Never Go Back, but the director of Jack Reacher, Christopher McQuarrie, remains on board to ensure this highly anticipated sequel lives up to its predecessor and showcases more of our hero's unique brand of justice.
